Windsor EV sells 10,045 units in 3 months, commands 49% of JSW MG Motor sales
JSW MG Motor India’s third electric vehicle after the ZS EV and the Comet has added tailwinds to its sales. Since launch in end-September, the tech-laden, spacious five-seater MPV has accounted for 49% of the company’s wholesales in the October-December 2024 quarter and helped double its share of EV retails in CY2024 to 21 percent.
JSW MG Motor India has a winning product in the recently launched MG Windsor EV. Priced at Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the tech-laden, spacious five-seater all-electric MPV which comes with a range of segment-first features, lounge-like seating and a lifetime battery warranty, has given a new charge to the company’s sales.
In the last quarter of CY2024, JSW MG Motor India dispatched a total of 10,045 units, which constitutes 49% of the company’s total passenger vehicle sales. The company currentlly retails five models comprising four SUVs (Hector, Astor, Gloster and ZS EV) and one hatchback (Comet EV). Sales have risen month on month, as seen from the three-month data table below. Starting with October 2024’s 3,116 units to November’s 3,144 units and December’s 3,785 units. According to the company, its three EVs together accounted for over 70% of its overall sales volumes of 7,516 units in December 2024, making the last month of last year its best-ever EV sales month.
Furthermore, JSW MG Motor India is also benefiting from its innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program for its EVs. According to the OEM, this flexible ownership program eliminates the upfront cost of the battery, enabling customers to pay only for its usage. This subscription model lowers the per-kilometre expense significantly reducing the initial acquisition cost to ensure an economical ownership experience. Under BaaS, the Windsor is available at Rs 999,000 + battery rental @ Rs3.5/km, MG Comet EV starts at Rs 499,000 + battery rental at Rs2.5/km and the MG ZS EV is offered at Rs 13.99 Lakh + battery rental at Rs 4.5/km.
WINDSOR EV POWERS JSW MG MOTOR INDIA TO 21% RETAIL MARKET SHARE
Retail sales of 21,464 EVs jumped 125% YoY (CY2023: 9,523 units), as a result of which the market share has doubled to 21% in CY2024.
On the retail sales front, JSW MG Motor India wrapped up 2024 on a very strong note. Total sales of 21,464 EVs are a handsome 125% jump on year-ago numbers (CY2023: 9,523 units), as a result of which its market share has jumped to 21% from 11% in CY2023, giving it the No. 2 rank. While EV market leader Tata Motors’ share has fallen by 10% to 62% in CY2024, JSW MG Motor India’s has risen by 10 percent YoY.
Meanwhile, the company is also upping the ante on the sales network front by expanding to Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities as well as rural markets across India. There are plans to set up 100 new touchpoints by the end of 2024, and setting up 520 touchpoints in 270 cities by the end of March 2025.
Later this month, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo (January 17-22), JSW MG Motor India will showcase three all-new models across three all-new categories, each targeted at a different set of customers. The MG Cyberster, the world’s fastest MG roadster, will headline the company’s newly launched luxury brand channel, MG Select. The company pavilion will also house experience zones that will demonstrate a holistic EV ecosystem along with infrastructure, and multiple use-cases of battery technology and second life.
