Maruti Ertiga and Brezza Each Surpass 1.4 Million Sales in February

Maruti Suzuki India’s best-selling MPV and compact SUV, launched four years apart, have notched individual sales milestones of their own in February 2026. Both sold over 17,000 units last month with the Ertiga (17,807 units) registered its second highest monthly sales in FY2026 YTD and the Brezza (17,863 units) its highest this fiscal. February also saw both these Marutis surpass 1.4 million cumulative wholesales in the domestic market.

While the Maruti Ertiga, launched on April 16, 2012, has clocked 14,01,384 units till end-February 2026, the Maruti Brezza, which kickstarted the compact SUV market on March 8, 2016, has registered total sales of 14,08,271 units.

Both models have been instrumental in making Maruti Suzuki the utility vehicle market leader for the past eight years from FY2018. That fiscal saw Maruti wrest the UV OEM No. 1 title from longstanding segment leader Mahindra & Mahindra with sale of 253,759 UVs to M&M’s 233,915 units. Considering Maruti Suzuki has sold 4.18 million (41,89,964 UVs) utility vehicles between FY2015 and February 2026, the Ertiga and Brezza with 2.80 million (28,09,655) units account for a 67% share.

While the Ertiga MPV (14,01,384 units) has a 33% share of Maruti Suzuki’s 4.18 million UV sales since FY2013, the Brezza compact SUV (14,08,271 units) has a 34% share in a decade of its existence.

Ertiga: India's No. 1 People-Mover

The Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki India's first crack at the MPV segment launched 14 years ago, continues to win over buyers, and has been India’s No. 1 MPV for the past six fiscals. The Ertiga’s highest ranking in the UV segment has been No. 3 in FY2020, FY2022 and FY2025. From FY2013, when it only had the Gypsy for company and accounted for 96% (76,375 units) of Maruti Suzuki’s total UV sales of 79,192 units, to 190,974 units in FY2025, the Ertiga has come a long way.

In FY2025, the Ertiga, which is sold with petrol and CNG powertrains, sold 190,974 units, up 27% YoY (FY2024: 149,757 units). This was its best-ever fiscal year performance, making it the best-selling utility vehicle for Maruti Suzuki and India’s third best-selling UV in FY2025 after the Tata Punch compact SUV and the Hyundai Creta midsize SUV.

Pricing for the 9-variant Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, powered by 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and CNG engines, starts at Rs 880,000 to Rs 12.94 lakh (ex-showroom). Currently in its second generation, the Ertiga has a claimed mileage of 20.3kpl to 26.11 km/kg as per ARAI testing. Its main rivals are the Toyota Rumion and the Kia Carens.

FY2026 will see the Maruti Ertiga notch its best-ever fiscal year sales. In the first 11 months of FY2026, the Ertiga has sold 181,783 units which marks a 4% YoY increase and is only 9,192 units away from hitting its best-ever sales which it will achieve at the end of March 2026

Brezza: Game-Changing Compact SUV

Maruti Suzuki’s first compact SUV is a game-changer in more ways than one. Launched on March 8, 2016 as the Vitara Brezza, this is the model which really energised the compact SUV segment (less than 4000mm length) in India. Over the past decade, the compact SUV category has progressively stamped its authority over the overall UV market and the Brezza was the growth catalyst.

For the first four years of its existence, the Brezza had only a diesel engine on offer – the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS turbocharged 88hp powerplant (discontinued in April 2020 when Maruti Suzuki exited diesel). In February 2020, to comply with BS VI emission norms, Maruti introduced the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine in the new Brezza.

Nevertheless, the strategic move to have only diesel power in the initial years paid off and the Brezza was India’s best-selling UV for four straight years – FY2017 (108,640 units), FY2018 (148,462 units), FY2019 (157,880 units and FY2020 (110,641 units). In FY2021, sales dropped 14% YoY to 94,635 which also meant that the Brezza lost its No. 1 UV title to the Hyundai Creta (120,035 units) that year and has not regained it since then as a result of a host of new rivals in the compact SUV segment.

Despite registering double-digit growth in FY2022, FY2023, FY2024 and FY2025, the highest ranking the Brezza could manage since FY2020 is No. 2 in FY2021. In FY2022, the Brezza was ranked No. 4 after the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta and sibling Ertiga. With an improved performance in FY2023 (145,665 units, up 28%) it rose to No. 3 and was also No. 3 in FY2024, behind the Tata Nexon and Punch. In FY2025, despite hitting its highest fiscal sales of 189,163 units, it was ranked fourth in the overall UV rankings and the No. 2 compact SUV after the Tata Punch).

The five-seater, 10-variant Maruti Brezza’s pricing starts from Rs 826,000 to Rs 12.86 lakh (ex-showroom). The Maruti Suzuki Brezza, which is offered with two engine options comprising petro; and CNG, delivers mileage ranging from 17.80kpl to 25.51 km/kg depending on the powertrain. Its main rivals include the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq and the Kia Syros.

In the current fiscal, the Maruti Brezza (163,974 units, down 5% YoY), is ranked fourth after the Tata Nexon (196,244 units), Hyundai Creta (184,083 units) and Maruti Ertiga (181,783 units).

Both the Ertiga and the Brezza continue to be movers and shakers in India’s booming UV market and will once again enable Maruti to rule this segment for the ninth consecutive fiscal. What’s more, the company, which has sold 689,631 UVs in the past 11 months, is set to register its highest-ever UV wholesales in FY2026. Like the Ertiga and the Brezza, another rival has also crossed the 1.4 million cumulative sales milestone but that calls for another number-crunching analysis.
