Toyota Vellfire Hits a New High in FY2026 With 1,259 Units Sold in Past 11 Months

The Toyota Vellfire, priced between Rs 1.20 crore and Rs 1.30 crore (ex-showroom) and the most expensive Toyota MPV in India, is proof that even a very high sticker price for an MPV cannot dissuade buyers. As per cumulative wholesales data published by apex industry body SIAM, the Vellfire has sold a total of 4,659 units from launch in February 2020 till end-February 2026. Fifty-two percent (2,414 units) of these sales have come in the past 23 months.

Launched a month before the Covid-19 pandemic engulfed the world, sales in the first few years were in three digits (see 7-year data table below). In August 2023, the first model was replaced by the next-gen Vellfire in six- and seven-seat configurations. Demand for the Vellfire took off in FY2025 when Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 1,155 units, up 189% YoY (FY2024: 400 units). FY2026 has turned out to be even better with 1,259 units sold in the first 11 months of the fiscal, marking robust 56% YoY growth (April 2024-February 2025: 809 units). With March 2026 numbers still to be counted, Toyota Kirloskar Motor could see record Vellfire sales of around 1,400 units in FY2026.

Toyota India’s uber-luxurious petrol-electric hybrid MPV which pampers occupants has registered strong double-digit growth this fiscal and could end FY2026 with record sales of around 1,400 units. 

Ace of Space and Comfort

The Toyota Vellfire is powered by a 193hp, 240Nm, 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol-hybrid powertrain mated to an e-CVT and delivers a claimed mileage of 19.28kpl. The real punch though lies inside this MPV. Compared to the old model, the new Vellfire’s interior gets a simple dashboard with fewer buttons, as most functions are integrated into the 14-inch touchscreen. Key highlights include a new and more comfortable seat design, a large overhead console for passengers to control various functions, multiple AC vents, and newly designed pull-down sunshades. The top Vellfire VIP model is offered with the Executive Lounge package and comes with two captain’s chairs for the second row. Other Vellfire car interior highlights include a head-up display, wireless charger, Ottoman second-row seats, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

The Toyota Vellfire, at five metres long, 1850mm wide and 1950mm tall, is a truly XXL-sized vehicle.

The Vellfire, which shares its underpinnings with the Lexus LM, is a truly XXL-sized vehicle which is five metres (5005mm) long, 1850mm wide and nearly 2 metres (1950mm) tall with a 3000mm wheelbase. The result is that this uber-luxurious MPV houses a cavernous interior that’s home to some of the best seats ever fitted in a vehicle. As Autocar India’s buyer guide puts it succinctly, “Light controls and great visibility make the hybrid-powered Vellfire surprisingly easy to drive but owners would be comfiest sprawled out at the back. The Vellfire is a luxury car you didn’t know you wanted.”

Toyota Vellfire safety rating at the Japan NCAP crash tests comprises 4 stars. Safety kit includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Camera and radar-based advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are also included.

Surging demand for the Toyota Vellfire in India probably led to the introduction of two new rivals – the MG M9 priced at Rs 69.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and the just-launched Mercedes-Benz V-Class which costs Rs 1.40 crore (ex-showroom). The Vellfire’s third rival is the Lexus LM Rs 2.15 crore (ex-showroom). Will demand for the Vellfire be impacted by the two new rivals in town? That remains to be seen but the fact remains that India’s rich and famous continue to queue up for this uber-luxurious Toyota MPV on wheels.
