TVS Jupiter sells a million units in 11 months, new Jupiter 125 coming soon

The Jupiter, TVS Motor Co’s flagship scooter and India’s No. 2 best-seller in the scooter market, has gone past the 75 lakh or seven-and-a-half million units wholesales milestone in the domestic market. Launched on September 16, 2013, the Jupiter scooter brand, first introduced as a 110cc model and then in 125cc avatar, has sold a total of 7.64 million units (75,46,852 units) till end-March 2025. Add the 102,588 units from April 2025, up 33% YoY (April 2024: 77,086 units) and the Jupiter’s grand total rises to 76,49,440 units.

The Jupiter registered its best-ever 12-month sales in FY2025 – 11,07,285 units, up 31% YoY – selling an additional 262,422 units over FY2024’s 844,863 units. This stellar performance saw the Jupiter account for 61% of TVS’ record scooter sales of 18,13,103 units in FY2025 and 31% of the Indian scooter industry best-ever fiscal sales of 35,19,225 units. The Jupiter’s best-ever monthly sales came in festive October 2024: 109,702 units.

In FY2025, the Jupiter maintained its position as TVS’ best-selling two-wheeler, selling more than twice the number of Apache series motorcycles (446,218 units), or the Raider 125 (399,819 units), NTorq 125 (334,414 units) and XL 100 moped (501,813 units).

Over the past 12 fiscals, the TVS Jupiter has sold 7.54 million units and accounted for 62% of TVS Motor Co’s total scooter sales of  12.10 million units. While the entry-level Jupiter 110 sales are steady, demand for the Jupiter 125 are on the upswing.

NEW JUPITER 125 COMING SOON
It is known that TVS, which registered its best-ever 12-month scooter sales  in FY2025, has been working on a number of new products including electric scooters.

Now, the company, on its model-specific Instagram handle, has released a couple of teaser images of the upcoming Jupiter 125 and said that the new scooter will sport a ‘bold new look’ along with ‘Style, Power, Performance.’

While few other details on the upcoming scooter are known, expect the new Jupiter 125cc to up the ante in this segment which has strong players like the Honda Activa 125, the popular Suzuki Access 125 and the Hero Destini Prime.

The current TVS Jupiter 125 range, powered by the 124.8cc which develops 8.1 hp and 10.5 Nm of torque, has three variants – with prices ranging from Rs 73,700 for the base 110cc model through to Rs 90,500 for the top-end Jupiter 125 Smart XConnect disc-fitted variant (ex-showroom Mumbai).

LAST MILLION TVS JUPITERS SOLD IN 11 MONTHS
From May 2024 to March 2025, the TVS Jupiter has sold 10,30,199 units, which means the last million units till end-FY2025 were sold in just 11 months. TVS’ best-selling two-wheeler is the closest rival to India’s No. 1 scooter, the Honda Activa.

A glimpse of the Jupiter’s promising future came in less than two years after launch. On May 14, 2015, the scooter crossed the 500,000-unit sales mark. Thirty months later, on June 13, 2016, it crossed the million-sales milestone and on September 26, 2017, the 2-million sales mark was surpassed. The four-million milestone came up early in FY2021 and five million in June 2022. In celebration of the five-million sales milestone, on September 23, 2022, TVS launched the 110cc Jupiter Classic in the top-of-the-line spec with disc brakes. The six-million sales milestone came up in October 2023 and the seven million mark in the first half of FY2025.

What has helped the Jupiter sustain itself as well as grow its market share is TVS regularly introducing variants and upgrades. Following the success of its first 125cc scooter, the NTorq, TVS introduced the Jupiter 125cc in October 2021. The feature-laden, bigger and more powerful Jupiter 125cc with industry-first features such as the largest under-seat storage, segment-leading longest seat, neo-masculine styling and high mileage has proved to be a growth driver for the brand, alongside the original 110cc model.

In August 2023, TVS launched thJupiter ZX Drum. It has TVS' Bluetooth-enabled SmartXonnect technology that allows riders to experience a host of connected features, including turn-by-turn navigation, voice assist and notification alerts. The scooter also comes with a built-in USB charger. The Jupiter ZX Drum continues to be powered by the air-cooled, 109.7cc, single-cylinder engine which develops maximum power of 7.5hp and 8.4 Nm of torque.

In August 2024, TVS launched the new Jupiter 110 with new styling, powered by the 113.3cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine which develops 8hp at 6500rpm and 9.8 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm with iGO Assist, and a number of first-in-segment features. These include a dual helmet under-seat storage, front fuel filling, and a spacious floorboard. The updated Jupiter 110, launched in August 2024, went on to win the 'Scooter of the Year 2025' accolade from Autocar India.

The current TVS Jupiter range currently stands at seven variants – four 110cc variants and three 125cc variants – with prices ranging from Rs 73,700 for the base 110cc model through to Rs 90,500 for the top-end Jupiter 125 Smart XConnect disc-fitted variant (ex-showroom Mumbai).

JUPITER HELPS POWER TVS SCOOTER MARKET SHARE TO 26%
Since its launch over 11 years ago, the Jupiter has helped give TVS a strong position in India’s fast-growing scooter market. Within a year of the Jupiter’s launch, the company’s scooter market share grew from 12.68% to 15.19% in FY2015 and 16.36% in FY2018, when the TVS NTorq 125 was introduced in the penultimate month of that fiscal.

Since then, the Jupiter-NTorq combine has accelerated TVS Motor Co’s scooter market share which has risen to an all-time high of 26% in FY2025, next only to market leader Honda’s 41.50%, which is down from the 43% HMSI had in FY2024 (see OEM-wise scooter sales and market share for FY2025 below).

In FY2025, TVS sold a record 1.81 million scooters including best-ever 1.10 million Jupiters and saw its market share rise to 26%.

Proof of the Jupiter powering TVS’ scooter sales can be amply seen in the company’s sales numbers. Of the company’s cumulative scooter sales of 1.21 million (1,21,00,773 units) from FY2014 till end-FY2025, the Jupiter accounts for 7.54 million units (75,46,852 units), which makes for a commanding contribution of 62 percent.

While there's also the Jupiter CNG in the new product pipeline, the fact that TVS has released teaser images of the new Jupiter 125 could mean that this model will be in line for a speedier market release.
