The Jupiter is the second best-selling scooter in India and sold 537,451 units in FY2015-16.

TVS Motor Company, the third largest scooter manufacturer in India, has achieved the landmark of selling one million units of its popular 110cc Jupiter scooter in 30 months.

The model, which is the best-selling scooter from TVS Motor, is also second largest-selling scooter model in the market with total sales of 537,451 units during FY2015-16, beating Hero MotoCorp’s Maestro for the period.

The TVS Jupiter’s monthly sales averaged close to 45,000 units for the last fiscal. Aimed at the family segment, this metal-bodied scooter model is powered by TVS’ proven all-aluminium, low-friction, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 110 engine that is known to deliver a good mix of power and fuel efficiency.

The Jupiter has also been instrumental in accelerating scooter sales for TVS Motor, thereby closing the gap with Hero MotoCorp in the overall domestic scooter market during the last financial year. According to SIAM industry data, while Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) stood at the top with a 55.44 percent market share in this growing segment, Hero MotoCorp and TVS Motor have 16.27 percent and 15.37 percent market shares respectively for FY2015-16.

In order to celebrate this landmark, TVS Motor has rolled out a special edition of this model named Jupiter MillionR, which comes equipped with 10 additional features – a tribute, according to company’s official communication, to its one million customers.

Among new features, the special edition of Jupiter comes equipped with a front disc brake – a segment first in the overall domestic 110cc scooter class, sports a MillionR edition badge on the front panel, wears royal wine livery with beige inner panels and dual tone seats, chrome mirrors, beige floor mat and others.

Commenting on the rollout of the special edition Jupiter, Aniruddha Haldar, vice-president – marketing, TVS Motor Co, said: “We are grateful for the outstanding response and love that the Jupiter has garnered in such a short time. 10 lakh families have reposed faith in Jupiter and its promise of Zyada ka Fayda. It is only fitting that this milestone be celebrated in the same manner. This gave birth to the MillionR edition, with 10 new features, a tribute to each of our 10 lakh happy customers.”

At Rs 53,034 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Jupiter MillionR, the company has priced the special edition at a premium of roughly Rs 4,000 above the base model. The base Jupiter model retails for Rs 48,809 (ex-showroom, Delhi), according to the company website. Pune-based company dealerships have indicated an on-road price of the Jupiter MillionR to be more than Rs 66,000.
