The Jupiter, along with the NTorq 125, have helped maintain the company’s 25% share in the booming scooter market.
The Jupiter, TVS Motor Co’s flagship scooter and India’s No. 2 best-seller in the segment, has achieved the seven-million wholesales milestone in the domestic market. Launched on September 16, 2013, the Jupiter scooter brand, first introduced as a 110cc model and then in 125cc avatar, has sold a total of 7.14 million units (71,40,927 units).
Till end-November 2024, the 110cc and 125cc TVS Jupiter siblings have together sold 7.14 million units in India and accounted for 62% of TVS Motor Co’s total scooter sales of 11.48 million units.
The Jupiter continues to be the Chennai-based two-wheeler major’s best-selling scooter as well as best-selling product in its entire two-wheeler portfolio. FY2024 was the Jupiter’s best fiscal year performance – at 844,863 units, going ahead of the previous best of 810,916 units in FY2018. It was TVS Motor Co’s best-selling two-wheeler in FY2024, ahead of the Raider 125 (478,443 units), XL (481,803 units), Apache series (378,112 units), and NTorq 125 (331,865 units).
In the ongoing fiscal year’s first nine months, TVS has dispatched 701,360 Jupiters to its showrooms across the country, up 22% (April-November 2023: 565,850 units). As in FY2024, the TVS Jupiter continues to remains way ahead of its siblings in the April-November 2024 period – NTorq (252,698 units), Raider (295,863 units), Apache (308,654 units) and XL moped (358,096 units). LAST MILLION UNITS SOLD IN 14 MONTHS
The TVS Jupiter is the closest rival to India’s best-selling scooter, the Honda Activa. The TVS Jupiter gave a glimpse of its promising future soon after launch. In less than two years after launch, on May 14, 2015, the scooter crossed the 500,000-unit sales mark.
Thirty months later, on June 13, 2016, it crossed the million-sales milestone for the first time. On September 26, 2017, the 2-million sales mark was surpassed. The four-million milestone came up early in FY2021 and five million in June 2022. In celebration of the five-million sales milestone, on September 23, 2022, TVS launched the 110cc Jupiter Classic in the top-of-the-line spec with disc brakes. The six-million sales milestone came up in October 2023. The last million sales have taken around 14 months.
What has helped the Jupiter sustain itself as well as grow its market share is TVS regularly introducing variants and upgrades. Following the success of its first 125cc scooter, the NTorq, TVS introduced the Jupiter 125cc in October 2021. The feature-laden, bigger and more powerful Jupiter 125cc with industry-first features such as the largest under-seat storage, segment-leading longest seat, neo-masculine styling and high mileage has proved to be a growth driver for the brand, alongside the original 110cc model.
In August 2023, TVS launched the Jupiter ZX Drum. It has TVS' Bluetooth-enabled SmartXonnect technology that allows riders to experience a host of connected features, including turn-by-turn navigation, voice assist and notification alerts. The scooter also comes with a built-in USB charger. The Jupiter ZX Drum continues to be powered by the air-cooled, 109.7cc, single-cylinder engine which develops maximum power of 7.5hp and 8.4 Nm of torque.
In August 2024, TVS launched the new Jupiter 110 with new styling, powered by the 113.3cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine which develops 8hp at 6500rpm and 9.8 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm with iGO Assist, and a number of first-in-segment features. These include a dual helmet under-seat storage, front fuel filling, and a spacious floorboard.
NEW JUPITER 110 WINS AUTOCAR INDIA'S 'SCOOTER OF THE YEAR 2025' ACCOLADE
The updated Jupiter 110, launched in August 2024, has won the 'Scooter of the Year 2025' accolade from Autocar India. The commentary on the scooter states, "Reinventing a bestseller is a risky affair but when done right, it is a thing of beauty. TVS did just that with the new Jupiter 110, overhauling the second best-selling scooter in India from stern to stern. Now the 110 shares its chassis and engine with its bigger sibling and some inherent trump cards."
"These include the cavernous 33-litre underseat storage area (the largest on an Indian ICE scooter) and an apron-mounted fuel filler cap. TVS has also given the Jupiter 110 an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) which provides a small electric boost under acceleration. The cherry on top is that it looks rather snazzy for a humble family scooter and also happens to be the quickest 110cc scooter out there while also being enjoyably fuel efficient."
The TVS Jupiter range currently stands at seven variants – four 110cc variants and three 125cc variants – with prices ranging from Rs 73,700 for the base 110cc model through to Rs 90,500 for the top-end Jupiter 125 Smart XConnect disc-fitted variant (ex-showroom Mumbai).
Following the success of its first 125 scooter, the NTorq, TVS launched the Jupiter 125 in October 2021 to capitalise on the consumer shift to 125cc scooters.
JUPITER HELPS POWER TVS SCOOTER MARKET SHARE TO 25%
Since its launch a little over 11 years ago, the Jupiter has helped give TVS a strong position in India’s scooter market. Within a year of its launch, TVS’ scooter market share grew from 12.68% to 15.19% in FY2015 and 16.36% in FY2018, when the TVS NTorq 125 was introduced in the penultimate month of that fiscal. Since then, the Jupiter-NTorq combine has accelerated TVS’ scooter market share to 25%, which is next only to market leader Honda’s 43 percent in FY2024.
Proof of the Jupiter powering TVS’s scooter sales can be amply seen in the company’s sales numbers. Of the company’s cumulative sales of 11.48 million (1,14,89,164 units) scooters from FY2014 till end-November 2024, the Jupiter accounts for 7.14 million units (71,40,927 units), which makes for a handsome contribution of 62 percent. In August 2024, TVS launched the 2024 Jupiter 110 with prices starting at Rs 73,700. It is powered by a new 113cc, 8hp/9.8Nm motor derived from the Jupiter 125 and a host of new features.

In the current fiscal year’s first eight months, TVS Motor Co has dispatched a total of 12,02,194 scooters, up 21% YoY (April-November 2023: 987,840 units) to its dealers across India. Of this, the Jupiter’s contribution at 701,360 units is 58% and the highest, followed by the NTorq 125 (252,698 units (up 8%) / 21% share).
Of the overall scooter industry’s wholesales of 47,87,080 units in April-November 2024, TVS Motor Co currently has a market share of 25%, below the market leader’s 44 percent. The Jupiter, which has averaged monthly sales of 87,670 units in the current fiscal till end-November, is likely to cross the 1-million sales mark for the first time in FY2025 if it maintains the same pace of growth. And, it’s learnt there’s a CNG variant in the new Jupiter product pipeline too. This will make TVS the first ground-up CNG scooter manufacturer worldwide. Stay tuned for the launch, slated to be in the first half of CY2025.
