Tata Punch Crosses 800,000 Sales, Demand Accelerates for MY2026 Model Across Powertrains
Having surpassed cumulative sales of 700,000 units in early February this year, the Tata Punch has taken less than five months to achieve the next 100,000-unit sales milestone, with the facelifted 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and CNG models, as well as the new Punch EV, witnessing growing demand.
The Tata Punch, which clocked record monthly wholesales (factory dispatches) of 21,006 units in June 2026 and was India’s best-selling SUV in Q1 FY2027 with 60,321 units, has become the second SUV after the Nexon from Tata Motors’ current passenger vehicle portfolio to achieve domestic market wholesales of 800,000 units. From launch in October 2021 till end-June 2026, the Punch sold 797,479 units, with the remaining 2,521 units needed to surpass the 800,000 milestone achieved in the first few days of July.
Having surpassed 700,000 sales in early February 2026, the Punch took just five months to achieve the next 100,000 sales, comprising February (18,748 units, up 29%), March (20,977 units, up 18%), April (19,107 units, up 53%), May (20,208 units, up 54%) and June (21,006 units, up 101%). The accelerated pace of sales can be seen in the fact that the Punch has crossed monthly sales of over 20,000 units only thrice since launch nearly five years ago, and all three instances have come this year itself.
The Punch, which has 32 variants across petrol, CNG and electric powertrains, is the most affordable Tata SUV, with the petrol Punch’s ex-showroom (Mumbai) price starting from Rs 570,000. While the CNG Punch’s price sticker starts at Rs 680,000, the new Punch EV’s pricing opens at Rs 969,000.

Sales have accelerated with the launch of the MY2026 Punch with a new 1.2L turbo-petrol engine and a CNG-AMT, as well as the facelifted Punch EV offered with a BaaS option to reduce upfront costs.
What has helped accelerate Punch sales is the launch of the facelifted model at Rs 559,000 (ex-showroom) in January this year. The new MY2026 Punch sports the most comprehensive update yet, including Punch EV-inspired interiors and exterior styling, a host of new features and new powertrains. While the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine (120hp and 170 Nm of torque) gives the Punch the punch it always needed (0-100kph: 11.1 seconds), the CNG-AMT uses the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine (73hp and 103 Nm) which is adequate for city use and relaxed highway driving.
Mileage is competitive for its segment: the 1.2L petrol engine delivers between 18.8kpl and 20.09kpl (ARAI), and the Tata Punch CNG delivers up to 26.99 km/kg. Some of the Punch’s top features are a 360-degree camera, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a single-pane sunroof, a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control with rear vents, and cruise control. The new facelifted Punch, which has six airbags, TPMS, hill hold and descent control, has received a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash safety rating.
Adding momentum to its petrol and CNG siblings, on February 20, Tata Motors launched the facelifted MY2026 Punch EV at Rs 969,000 to Rs 12.79 lakh (ex-showroom), with a battery rental, or battery-as-a-service (BaaS), scheme option that reduces the upfront cost.
The MY2026 Punch EV is the first major update to Tata’s smallest electric SUV since its introduction and sports styling tweaks inspired by the ICE Punch, feature upgrades and revisions to the electric powertrain line-up. The updated Punch EV now comes with two battery options—30 kWh (ARAI-certified range of 365km) and 40 kWh (468km range), replacing the earlier 24 kWh and 34 kWh packs.

TATA PUNCH: FASTEST COMPACT SUV TO ACHIEVE 800,000 SALES
The Punch has raised its sales bar with every 100,000 units. In August 2022, it became the first SUV in India to achieve the 100,000-wholesales milestone in just 10 months, crossed the 150,000 mark in 15 months after launch, 200,000 in 20 months, 300,000 in 28 months, and 400,000 in June 2024, 32 months after launch in October 2021. While the run from 400,000 to 500,000 wholesales took a scant six months (January 2025, 38 months after launch), the run from half a million units to 600,000 (achieved in July 2025) was slower and took 11 months. With GST 2.0 slashing prices, the race from 600,011 to 700,000 took a little over six months. Now, the last 100,000 Punch SUVs with petrol, CNG and electric powertrains have been sold in just the last five months—or a little over 57 months (4.75 years) since launch.
This makes the Tata Punch the fastest compact SUV to achieve 800,000 sales. It is likely also the fastest to this milestone in the overall SUV segment. While the Maruti Brezza took 80 months to hit 800,000, the Hyundai Venue took 85 months, and the Tata Nexon took 89 months to surpass the 800,000-sales milestone in the domestic market. While the game-changing Brezza has till date sold 1.46 million units, the Nexon is the only other ‘millionaire’ compact SUV (1,092,239 units), and the Venue has chalked up 812,997 units.
The Punch continues to outpunch the competition, and its stellar performance in Q1 FY2027, wherein it accounted for 32% of Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle dispatches of 187,953 units (up 45% YoY), helped the company outsell Mahindra & Mahindra (174,745 units, up 15% YoY), which was ahead of Tata in Q1 FY2026.
With a record 60,321 units sold in the first three months of FY2027 and bookings surging across all powertrains, the Tata Punch, in its new avatar, is well set to achieve both the 200,000-unit and 250,000-unit milestones for the first time in a fiscal year.
