Royal Enfield on Track to Launch First Flying Flea Model by FY26 End

Eicher Motors-owned mid-size motorcycle maker Royal Enfield is on track to launch its first set of electric motorcycles under the Flying Flea brand towards the end of the current financial year.

“FF-C6 and S6 are the two models. Both are different products… We are currently in the testing phase… We are looking to launch in Q4 of FY26,” Eicher Motors Managing Director B. Govindarajan told reporters on Wednesday.

Flying Flea's first two motorcycles—the classic-styled FF-C6 and the scrambler-styled FF-S6—were announced when Royal Enfield unveiled its electric motorcycle brand, Flying Flea, at EICMA in Milan last year.

The C6 will be launched first, followed by the S6 within a short time. Management noted that Flying Flea’s focus is to make urban-focused, city electric two-wheelers going forward. Govindarajan noted that the company has no plans to move the EV business into a separate business unit as of now.

Elaborating on the EV brand, Govindarajan said: “Royal Enfield’s EV journey is through the Flying Flea brand. This is a brand that blends for city, city-plus conditions, and is lightweight. That is the initial thought with which we are entering.”

The brand draws inspiration from the original Flying Flea, which was launched in the 1940s as a small, lightweight, purpose-built motorcycle designed for military use during World War II.

The company has committed over ₹1,500 crore to its electric vehicle business and has already brought on board key top management executives for Flying Flea.

They have been investing deeply in R&D for electric vehicles over the last few years and have set up a dedicated team of over 250 people in India and the UK for EVs. Govindarajan noted that the team has filed over 45 patents in various technologies.

Royal Enfield is evaluating options such as leveraging existing retail outlets and setting up a new set of dedicated channels to sell its electric vehicles. The company expects to finalize the retail strategy by the next quarter.

While Royal Enfield has already acquired land for the electric vehicle facility in Cheyyar, the first set of electric vehicles will come out of its Oragadam facility—from a separate manufacturing line.

Eicher Motors has also acquired around a 10% stake in Spanish high-performance electric motorcycle maker Stark Future, with plans to co-develop electric motorcycles.

Though electrification in India is being driven by two-wheelers, the electric motorcycle segment is yet to see significant traction, with limited offerings from a few startups such as Revolt and Ultraviolette.

Ather Energy is developing a motorcycle platform named "Zenith," while Ola Electric has already launched its first electric motorcycle—Roadster—recently.

Autocar Professional recently reported that Royal Enfield is looking to manufacture 1.1 million motorcycles in the current financial year, which will also include EVs for the first time.
