Volvo Buses India Introduces Seater-Sleeper Variant of 9600 Coach

Volvo Buses India has officially introduced a new integrated seater-sleeper configuration for its premium Volvo 9600 coach line. Operating under VECV, The multi-configuration passenger platform was showcased at the Prawaas 5.0 transport summit in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, targeting the changing fleet requirements of long-distance intercity, tourism, and pilgrimage transit routes across the domestic market.

The 15-metre multi-axle coach is equipped with a Volvo VEDX8 diesel engine paired with the company's automated I-Shift transmission network. To maximize route versatility for private and institutional operators, the layout features a total capacity of 51 passengers, dividing the cabin space into 24 upper sleeper berths, three rear lower berths, and 27 premium lower-deck seats fitted with calf support structures. The vehicle frame also clears 6 cubic metres of dedicated under-floor luggage space to accommodate high-volume luggage requirements on prolonged highway routes.

For extended long-distance passenger transit, the interior architecture integrates a localized kitchenette and a fully enclosed onboard toilet module. Additional interior upgrades feature modified passenger amenities, including localized mood lighting systems, specialized privacy partitions, independent mobile electronic charging ports, and dedicated entertainment integration points throughout the cabin.

The updated chassis introduces several driver assistance and active safety systems to the domestic commercial vehicle segment. The safety suite replaces traditional exterior rear-view glass assemblies with electronic camera monitor mirrors to improve peripheral visibility during adverse weather and low-light operations. Additional factory assistance equipment features a 360-degree surrounding camera monitor, a tire pressure monitoring system, a driver state monitoring assembly configured to detect operating fatigue or distraction, and an alcohol interlock module that restricts ignition operations if intoxication parameters are registered.

The long-distance platform also comes equipped with a connected telematics software solution to assist logistics management teams. The network provides transport operators with real-time digital access to fleet metrics, including exact global positioning system tracking, current vehicle speeds, fuel burn efficiency, and active diagnostic performance alerts.
