India Inaugurates Hydrogen Zone at Energy Week 2026

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the Hydrogen Zone at India Energy Week 2026 on Monday, following the event's opening ceremony in Goa.

Oil India is hosting the Hydrogen Zone, which displays hydrogen technologies and solutions related to India's energy transition. The zone presents innovations in hydrogen production, storage, and utilization.

The exhibits focus on hydrogen's potential to reduce emissions in sectors including refining, fertilizers, steel production, and transportation. The zone also aims to position India in global hydrogen markets.

The Hydrogen Zone is one of eleven thematic zones at India Energy Week 2026. These zones provide a platform for policymakers, industry representatives, investors, and technology companies to examine solutions and form partnerships.

Other thematic zones at the event cover renewable energy, digitalization and AI, biofuels, LNG infrastructure, city gas distribution, petrochemicals, Make in India initiatives, and the India Net-Zero Zone.

India Energy Week 2026 has drawn over 75,000 energy professionals, more than 700 companies, and participants from over 120 countries. The event serves as a forum for government officials, industry executives, and technology developers to address energy security, sustainability, and affordability.

India approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission in January 2023 with the objective of making the country a leading producer and supplier of green hydrogen globally National Portal of India. The mission has an initial budget of Rs. 19,744 crore.

The mission targets producing 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030, with associated renewable energy capacity of 125 GW Gh2. The government expects the mission to attract over Rs. 8 lakh crore in investments and create over 600,000 jobs by 2030, while averting nearly 50 million metric tonnes of CO2 emissions Gh2.

The mission includes the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme, with Rs. 17,490 crore allocated for domestic electrolyzer manufacturing and green hydrogen production.
