Drive System Design showcases electrification projects at IAA Transportation 2024
Drive System Design (DSD), a subsidiary of Hinduja Tech, will present its latest innovations in electrified propulsion systems, focusing on sustainability, efficiency, and advanced technologies, at IAA Transportation 2024 in Hannover, Germany.
Drive System Design (DSD), an engineering consultancy and a subsidiary of Hinduja Tech since its acquisition in December 2022, is set to present its recent developments in electrified propulsion systems at IAA Transportation 2024 in Hannover, Germany. Hinduja Tech, known for its work across various vehicle platforms, including new energy vehicles, focuses on cost-effective and efficient product development, supported by its approach to frugal engineering and risk management.
DSD has a long-standing history in designing driveline and transmission systems for internal combustion engine vehicles. Since 2010, the company has focused on the engineering and development of electrified propulsion systems, expanding its services to electric vehicles. DSD has earned the trust of major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Tier-1 suppliers, and research institutions in the automotive, commercial vehicle, aerospace, off-highway, and defense industries. With technical centers in North America and the UK and commercial centers in South Korea, Japan, and India, DSD offers comprehensive propulsion system engineering services worldwide.
At IAA Transportation 2024, DSD will highlight several projects. One of them is the PHEV-DCT Transmission, which was developed for an European OEM. This transmission aims to enhance fuel efficiency through a dual-clutch architecture while maintaining a premium driving experience, managed by DSD’s Infinite Control Software platform.
DSD has also focused on sustainability by utilising powder metallurgy in its designs. This approach reduces costs by approximately 15% and decreases the carbon footprint of components by around 40%. Additionally, the company is working on incorporating soft magnetic compounds into motor designs, which provide better performance and price stability, the company claims.
In another project, DSD conducted lubrication testing of e-Axle transmissions. Using both physical and virtual validation methods, the company was able to accelerate the design process for a major automotive manufacturer, ensuring that the transmission performs well under various driving conditions.
Finally, DSD will also showcase its Open Platform Inverter (OPI) SiC, a flexible hardware and software platform for motor components and motor control IP development.
Pedro Zabala, Head of Control Systems at DSD, will be present at the event to discuss the Open Platform Inverter and the Infinite Control Software platform, which has been used in various sectors, including aerospace and heavy-duty vehicles.
"The acquisition of DSD in 2022 has strengthened Hinduja Tech’s powertrain capabilities," said Shankar V., EMEA Regional Head of Hinduja Tech. "DSD's expertise has supported our growth in the EMEA region, and together, we are contributing to the shift towards cleaner transportation solutions."
