Cosmo Consumer Enters Automotive Ceramic Coating Segment
The ceramic coating is designed to provide surface protection, gloss enhancement, and durability.
Cosmo Consumer, the consumer-facing division of Cosmo First Limited, has entered the automotive ceramic coating segment with the launch of Cosmo Guard, a nano-ceramic coating solution aimed at vehicle surface protection. The move expands the company’s automotive protection portfolio, which already includes paint protection films (PPF) and window films.
Cosmo Guard has been developed using the company’s capabilities in specialty chemicals, coating formulation, and substrate science. Alongside the ceramic coating, the product range includes rubbing and polishing compounds designed for surface preparation prior to coating application.
According to the company, these compounds use sub-micron abrasive technology that maintains uniform particle size during use, unlike conventional diminishing abrasive systems. This is intended to reduce surface defects such as micro-marring and enable a more consistent finish before coating.
The ceramic coating is designed to provide surface protection, gloss enhancement, and durability. The polishing compound can increase surface gloss levels from 75-85 gloss units (GU) to 92-98 GU, while improving Distinction of Image by reducing surface roughness. The rubbing compound is intended to address medium to heavy defects such as swirl marks and sanding marks.
Abhineesh Das, Business Head at Cosmo Consumer, said the launch aligns with the company’s expansion in automotive surface protection and growing demand for vehicle care solutions.
The coating uses silicon dioxide (SiO₂) as a base material, forming chemical bonds with the vehicle surface. This is expected to improve resistance to scratches, swirl marks, and environmental exposure. The product also offers hydrophobic properties, with a water contact angle of up to 100 degrees, enabling a self-cleaning effect.
Cosmo Guard is designed to withstand temperatures between 70°C and 100°C and provide resistance to fuel exposure, UV radiation, and thermal stress. The company said laboratory tests were conducted to evaluate performance across parameters such as scratch resistance, weatherability, and hydrophobicity.
The polishing and rubbing compounds are silicone-free and do not contain waxes or fillers, making them suitable for use in body shop environments without masking surface defects.
The coating is expected to offer durability of two to five years, compared to conventional waxes and paint sealants. The company also indicated plans to introduce additional variants, including graphene-based and self-healing ceramic coatings.
Cosmo Consumer operates within the broader structure of Cosmo First Limited, which has businesses across specialty films, specialty chemicals, and packaging, along with consumer-focused segments such as automotive surface protection and pet care.
