Amazon India Records Twofold Growth in Online Two-Wheeler Sales
The e-commerce platform doubles its motorcycle and scooter transaction volumes, driven by premium vehicle adoption and electric mobility registrations across Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets.
Amazon India has announced that its dedicated online two-wheeler marketplace has achieved a twofold year-on-year growth in sales volumes. The commercial expansion is being led by a pronounced shift in consumer behavior across non-metro markets, where buyers are increasingly purchasing premium and electric vehicles online alongside conventional daily commuter models.
Aman Lohan, Director of Home, Kitchen and Outdoors at Amazon India, stated that the traditional two-wheeler buying journey in the country is often long and complex due to varying fuel types, technical specifications, and fluctuating price points. Lohan noted that these purchasing barriers are amplified in regional areas where physical product selection is historically limited.
Sales metrics indicate a structural shift toward high-specification vehicles, with the average transaction value on the platform now exceeding 1 lakh rupees. Bookings for premium motorcycles expanded nearly fivefold year-on-year, while commuter motorcycle volumes more than doubled and conventional internal combustion engine scooters grew by 50 percent during the same period. In the electric two-wheeler vertical, mid-premium models priced between 1 lakh rupees and 1.5 lakh rupees now account for more than half of all electric vehicle demand on the portal, signaling a clear transition away from low-cost entry options.
The volume expansion remains overwhelmingly concentrated outside of major metropolitan areas, with nearly two-thirds of all two-wheeler buyers originating from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. For electric two-wheelers, that non-metro metric climbs to 70 percent of total regional demand. Overall, first-time digital buyers from more than 2,300 Tier 3 towns completed a two-wheeler purchase on the website over the past 12 months.
The e-commerce platform did not provide any gross sales figures for the above findings.
