ABB E-mobility Unveils M-Series Split System Charging Infrastructure

ABB E-mobility introduced its new OM M-Series charging infrastructure in Zurich on April 23, 2026. The modular, air-cooled split system is designed to separate power generation from power dispensing, allowing operators to configure setups based on specific utilization patterns.

The architecture utilizes centralized power cabinets connected to a range of purpose-built dispensers, which include the Solo, Duo, Dock, and Ultra models. These dispensers support multiple charging standards including CCS1, CCS2, NACS, and MCS. The power delivery unit dynamically distributes capacity across the connected charge points and vehicle types in real time, treating the total installed power as a shared resource rather than allocating a fixed output to each individual stall.

The M-Series system scales from 200 kW up to 1.2 MW and can support a maximum of 24 charge points. Operators can expand the power capacity in the field in 400 kW increments across up to three interconnected cabinets. The system offers a power density of 625 kW per square meter, providing a compact footprint for sites with space constraints or high land costs.

ABB E-mobility is targeting three primary site typologies with the new system: public fast charging corridors, retail and hospitality destinations, and commercial fleet depots. The hardware integrates with the company's asset operations platform for AI driven fault detection and field service management. It also supports optional AC coupled battery storage for peak shaving and site level energy flexibility.

Michael Halbherr, CEO of ABB E-mobility, stated that the industry is shifting focus from installed capacity to the lifetime cost of energy delivered. He noted that the new system is built to consistently deliver power across various vehicle architectures, charge points, and utilization levels.
