Maruti Suzuki begins displaying Jimny 5-door at Nexa showrooms
Jimny 5-door, which has received around 22,000 bookings, will be displayed at Nexa showrooms in a phased manner; pricing likely to be announced in May 2023.
The five-door Jimny SUV, which has already garnered around 22,000 bookings since its global reveal at Auto Expo 2023 in January, has begun being showcased at Maruti Suzuki India’s premium Nexa showrooms. It is learnt that the Jimny will be displayed in a phased manner and each Nexa showroom will have the SUV on display for one or two days initially.
Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant is expected to commence series production of the Jimny 5-door in April 2023 for the domestic and exports markets, albeit the SUV’s market launch and price announcement are still some time away. The company plans to produce around 100,000 units a year with around 7,000 units a month earmarked for the domestic market and the rest for exports.
Customer deliveries for the Jimny are expected to commence by late May in India and sources have told Autocar India that the top-end Jimny Alpha, which is the variant with the highest demand, will see priority in the production sequence.
The Jimny is available in just two trims – Zeta and Alpha – where the latter gets the bells and whistles including auto headlamps, SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system and Arkamys sound system. However, Maruti Suzuki is offering safety features like six airbags and hill-hold assist as standard. The detailed list of features is here.
Maruti Suzuki’s tried-and-tested 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine, which powers the Jimny, develops 105hp and 134Nm of peak torque. Gearbox choices include either a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque-converter automatic. The SUV gets Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’ modes. The Jimny is also underpinned by a rugged ladder-frame chassis.
Expect Maruti Suzuki to price the Jimny in the region of Rs 12 lakh when it goes on sale, most likely in May 2023. While it will have no direct rivals at launch, Mahindra & Mahindra and Force Motors are also developing five-door versions of the Thar and Gurkha. Both these SUVs will cater to a similar customer base as the Jimny five-door.
