XC60 and XC90 drive Volvo Cars’ global sales in April

The XC90 and the XC60 were the top selling models for Volvo Cars in April.

Swedish automaker Volvo Cars posted an 11.3 percent rise in its global sales in the month of April, selling 42,434 cars.

Sales of the new Volvo XC90 were the main growth driver in all regions, while the popular XC60 was the best-selling model globally. Meanwhile, the year-to-date sales of Volvo Cars went up by 11.8 percent year-on-year (YoY).

The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in April with 11,937 sold cars (2015: 13,187), followed by the Volvo XC90 at 8,102 cars. The Volvo V40/V40 Cross Country was the third best-selling model line with 7,365 sold cars (8,050).

Continuing the trend, Sweden was the biggest market for the month with 6,635 cars sold, up 10.3 percent versus April last year. The overall sales of Europe as were up by 12.3 percent with solid growth in Germany, France, the UK and the Netherlands. The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in the region while the new XC90 represented most of the growth for the month.

The United States reported a sales increase of 33.1 percent YoY, selling 6,169 cars. The new Volvo XC90 was the key growth driver and the best-selling Volvo model in the US.

Meanwhile, China was the second biggest market for the carmaker in April with sales of 6,280 cars. The best-selling cars were the locally produced Volvo XC60 and S60L models.
