Kia’s global sales up 11% in September, Kia India contributes 10%

With 25,857 units, Kia India accounts for 10.37% of global sales of 249,146 units. And the Seltos, with 11,000 units, contributed to 38% of the midsize SUV’s global tally.

Kia’s global sales up 11% in September, Kia India contributes 10%

Kia Corporation has reported global sales of 249,146 units in September 2022, an 11% increase year-on-year (September 2011: 224,357 units). Of this, Kia India, which clocked its highest-ever monthly sales of 25,857 units (79% YoY growth), contributed 10.37% to the Korean carmaker’s global sales.

Kia’s SUV line-up led global sales during September, with the Sportage and the Seltos achieving the highest numbers. The Sportage recorded global sales of 42,168 units, followed by the Seltos with 28,847 units. The Sorento SUV followed, recording 20,122 units in September.

The Seltos was Kia India’s best-seller in September with 11,000 units, which means it accounted for 38% of global Seltos sales. Kia India’s other high sellers included the Sonet compact SUV with 9,251 units. The recently launched Carens MPV, with 5,233 units, is also reflecting strong customer demand. The Carnival MPV sold 333 units last month in India.  

Kia India has improved its contribution to the carmaker's global sales month on month. In August 2022, Kia registered global sales of 239,887 units (up 10.4%). Kia India, in August, had sold 22,322 units thereby contributing 9.3% to global sales. Of the 39,281 Seltos SUVs sold in August, Kia India accounted for 8,652 units or 33% of Seltos global sales.  

Sales outside of Korea also up 11%
Outside of Korea, Kia posted sales of 209,137 units, up 10.9% year-on-year; this means Kia India accounted for 12.36% of the company’s overseas sales. The Sportage and the Seltos SUVs continued to lead Kia’s sales momentum with 37,727 and 25,334 units, respectively. India, along with the US, Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions and South and Central America regions all recorded robust sales results.

Korea sales rise 12%
Kia recorded sales of 40,009 units in Korea, up 11.8 percent year-on-year. Also in the domestic market, the Sorento recorded sales of 5,335 units to lead the brand’s domestic sales. This was followed by the Sportage SUV, which achieved 4,441 units.

Kia’s global sales thus far have increased 2% year-to-date. Going forward, in response to the market's current challenges, Kia says it “will continue to adjust its production in line with inventory status and to minimize production disruption.”
