Visual proof of the growing consumer demand for any vehicle is it being seen regularly on the road. That’s just what is being witnessed about the MG Windsor EV, the cool-looking product that has taken the battle into electric passenger vehicle market leader Tata Motors’ camp. Launched in end-September 2024, the tech-laden, spacious five-seater, all-electric MPV, which comes with a range of segment-first features, lounge-like seating and a lifetime battery warranty, has given a new charge to JSW MG Motor India’s sales.

With 15,753 units dispatched to dealers in the past 5 months, the Windsor EV accounts for 54% of JSW MG Motor India's overall passenger vehicle sales.

The company currently retails seven models comprising five SUVs (Astor, Hector 5-seater/Hector Plus, Gloster and ZS EV), one MPV (Windsor EV) and one hatchback (Comet EV). In the past five months since the Windsor EV’s launch, JSW MG Motor India has dispatched a total of 15,753 units of the zero-emission MPV. Given that the company’s total vehicle wholesales from October 2024 to February 2025 were 29,037 units, the Windsor EV’s share works out to 54% or more than half of total PV sales. December 2024 with 3,785 units has been the Windsor EV’s best month to date.

On February 19, 2025, the 15,000th Windsor EV rolled out of the company’s Halol factory. Given the robust demand for the MPV, which is learnt to be drawing 200 bookings a day, the company is increasing the manufacturing capacity for the Windsor EV.

Autocar India’s Buyer’s Guide commentary on the Windsor EV states: “The Windsor EV is MG’s best EV yet . . . spacious, has unique and comfy lounge seats, and a long features list. It drives nicely too, being set up for a smooth and easy going drive. The ride quality, however, is on the firmer side. The innovative battery hire arrangement is worth looking it.”

Along with the Windsor EV’s product attributes per se, what has drawn buyers is the company’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program for its EVs. According to the OEM, this flexible ownership program eliminates the upfront cost of the battery, enabling customers to pay only for its usage. This subscription model lowers the per-kilometre expense significantly reducing the initial acquisition cost to ensure an economical ownership experience. Under BaaS, the Windsor is available at Rs 999,000 + battery rental @ Rs3.5/km, MG Comet EV starts at Rs 499,000 + battery rental at Rs2.5/km and the MG ZS EV is offered at Rs 13.99 Lakh + battery rental at Rs 4.5/km.

JSW MG MOTOR INDIA EV RETAIL SHARE JUMPS TO 27%
Of JSW MG Motor India’s 26,244 EVs retail sales in the first 11 months of FY2025, 68% or 17,921 units have come since October 2024 after the Windsor EV was launched in the market.

While wholesale numbers are essentially factory dispatches to company dealers, retail sales numbers depict the actual customer deliveries and are the real-world indication of a model’s sales. The latest retail sales data, sourced from the Vahan portal (shown above), reveals just how the success of the Windsor EV is reflected in the company’s rapid growth in the past five months.

While JSW MG Motor India sold 8,323 EVs in the April-September 2024 period, up 57% YoY, the 17,921 EVs sold in the past five months from October 2024-February 2025 are a massive 245% increase on the 5,195 units sold in the October 2023-February 2024 period. The key differentiator has been the Windsor EV.

This stellar performance in the domestic electric passenger vehicle market has meant that JSW MG Motor India’s market share has risen to 27% – 26,244 EVs of the total 95,128 e-cars, SUVs and MPVs retailed in India in the past 11 months. As per the latest Vahan data, Tata Motors has sold 52,846 electric passenger vehicles and has a 55% e-PV market share in India in the current fiscal.
