Amid the falling sales across the two-wheeler market in India, models with stable sales performance are noticeably finding spots in the Top 10 best-selling vehicles’ list.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s (HMSI) Aviator and TVS Motor Co’s Wego are two such examples that have returned to the Top 10 best-selling scooters’ list for December 2015.

While the TVS Wego has returned to the Top 10 best-selling scooters list for the first time in the ongoing financial year, the Honda Aviator has found a spot after the gap of a month. It was last seen in this list in October 2015.

The 110cc TVS Wego occupies the tenth spot with sales of 6,369 units in December 2015. Its competitor in 110cc scooter segment, the stylish Honda Aviator ranks ninth with sales of 8,622 units during the last month.

The TVS Wego had ranked ninth with sales of 6,852 units in December 2014. The Honda Aviator, on the other hand, stood at the seventh position in the elite list with sales of 9,867 units in December 2014.

As compared to the best-selling scooters in November 2015, the return of these two models has kicked out the Mahindra Gusto and the TVS Zest, both belonging to the 110cc scooter segment too.

The top end of the list too has seen some action December. Hero’s Maestro range outsells TVS’ Jupiter, albeit by a thin margin, for the No. 2 position. Industry experts estimate that Hero MotoCorp managed to boost the sales of its Maestro scooters on the back of improved availability of its recently launched Maestro Edge model across its pan-India network. While the Hero Maestro sold 52,084 units, the TVS Jupiter registered total sales of 47,217 units during December 2015 and held the third spot.

It can be recalled that in November 2015, TVS’s Jupiter, with sales of 51,768 units, had outsold the Hero Maestro models, which had sold 35,672 units then.

Meanwhile, Honda’s Activa brand of scooters remains the undisputed leader of the Indian scooter spectrum. The company sold a total of 174,154 units during December 2015 (December 2014: 180,879), down by 3.72 percent YoY.

The fourth and fifth spots are held by the Hero Pleasure and Honda Dio respectively for the last month. While the Hero Pleasure sold 15,540 units, closely following it was the Honda Dio that clocked sales of 15,484 units (just 56 units behind) in December 2015.

Stabilising its position in the Top 10 best-selling scooters list by marking their presence for the third month in a row, Hero’s newly launched Duet variants have grabbed the sixth spot with sales of 14,893 units during the last month.

Yamaha’s bestselling scooter model, the Fascino sold 14,437 units and stands at the seventh spot. Suzuki’s evergreen Access, an old competitor to Honda’s Activa, continues to perform with stable sales. It sold 12,018 units in December 2016, and occupies the eighth position in the list.
