Carens and Clavis top Kia India sales in June, Clavis EV launch today
Recent expansion of the Carens line-up with the new Clavis has helped drive up demand for the well-equipped and versatile MPV. With factory dispatches of 7,921 units and a 38% share of Kia India’s wholesales in June, the Carens brand has topped the company’s model-wise monthly sales for the second time since its launch in February 2022. The Clavis EV will further expand the target audience.
The Kia Carens MPV has notched a new wholesales milestone in June 2025. With factory dispatches of 7,921 units, it became Kia India’s best-selling model for the second time since its launch in February 2022. The second-bestseller last month was the Sonet compact SUV (6,658 units), followed by the Seltos midsize SUV (5,225 units), Syros compact SUV (774 units).
In June 2025, the Carens and Clavis had a 38% share of Kia India’s wholesales of 20,625 units, compared to the Sonet’s 32%, Seltos’ 25% and the Syros’ 4 percent. June 2025 numbers, however, are not the Carens’ best monthly sales – June 2023 with 8,047 units holds onto that status.
June 2023 was also when the Carens had topped Kia India’s monthly sales for the first time. The 8,047 units two years ago remains its highest monthly sales to date, when the Kia MPV was ahead of the Sonet (7,722 units) and Seltos (3,578 units).
What has helped accelerate the Carens’ sales in June 2025 is the launch of the new Carens Clavis, a more upmarket sibling with more six- and seven-seater options, in early May. The original Carens, a three-row derivative of the Seltos, is now available in only two trim levels and only as a seven-seater. The easy-to-drive Carens, which offers high levels of comfort and space and includes a diesel engine option, seems to be now clearly targeted at fleet operators. The market action has now shifted to the more upmarket Carens Clavis.
The well-equipped Carens Clavis, which comes with multiple 1.5-litre petrol and diesel powertrain options, offers comfortable seating in all three rows, a new interior, more tech and comfort features. There are 21 variants on offer – 14 petrol and 7 diesel – priced from Rs 13.47 lakh for the base petrol through to the top-end diesel (Rs 23.17 lakh, on-road Delhi).
The Carens brand’s cumulative sales in the April-June 2025 quarter at 17,704 units are up 12% YoY (Q1 FY2025: 15,798 units) and comprise 5,259 units in April, 4,524 units in May and 7,921 units in June. In FY2025, the Carens had sold 64,609 units (up 2.3%), which means its Q1 FY2026 sales are 27% of last fiscal.
The Carens brand will get a further boost today (July 15) when the electric avatar of the Clavis – Kia’s first made-in-India EV – is launched. Kia India claims the Clavis EV has a 490km range and sports subtle EV-specific tweaks over its IC-engined sibling.
Carens’ best fiscal year sales to date were 70,314 units in FY2023. The market introduction of the Carens Clavis and the Clavis EV is expected to provide a new sales charge in FY2026.
OVER 228,000 CARENS MPVs SOLD IN INDIA
Launched in February 2022, the spacious and versatile Carens with a usable third row of seats has been a key growth driver for Kia, which has sold over 1.26 million vehicles in India. In early February 2025, the Carens drove past the 200,000-unit sales milestone – news which Autocar Professional broke – to become the third Kia India model after the Seltos and Sonet to do so.
From February 2022 till end-June 2025, the Carens (along with the Carens Clavis) has clocked cumulative wholesales of 228,486 units. As per the wholesales data table above, FY2023 with 70,314 units was the Carens’ best fiscal, accounting for 26% of Kia India’s total sales of 269,229 vehicles. FY2024’s 63,167 units were down 11% YoY and the 64,609 units sold in FY2025 were up just 2% YoY.
The rollout of the Carens Clavis and the launch of its electric avatar, Clavis EV, are expected to provide a sales boost to the Kia MPV which was ranked the third-best-selling model after the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova for the first half of CY2025.
Since its market entry nearly six years ago with a single product (Seltos), Kia India is now a formidable player in India’s passenger vehicle market with eight vehicles – the Seltos midsize SUV, Sonet and Syros compact SUVs, Carens, Carens Clavis and Carnival MPVs, and the EV6 and EV9. The Clavis EV is the ninth model from the company whose sales and service network is spread across 744 touchpoints across 329 cities.
