Mahindra XEV 9S will be the first mass-market 3-row SUV at launch.

The Mahindra XEV 9S will see a global debut and price announcement on November 27, Autocar Professoinal can confirm.

The XEV 9S is Mahindra’s first three-row, born-electric SUV based on the modular INGLO skateboard platform. Earlier shown as the XEV 7e concept, the production-spec 9S will sit above the stylish XEV 9e and the radical BE 6 SUVs, both of which are two-row EVs.

While designed around the INGLO architecture, the XEV 9S carries a silhouette reminiscent of the XUV700, featuring a familiar stance and proportions with EV-specific tweaks, a few unique styling details, and unique aero-optimised alloy wheels.  The SUV also appears to get a more upright roofline and a conventional tailgate to accommodate its three-row layout.

The XEV 9S shares much of its layout with the XEV 9e. This includes the triple-screen panoramic dashboard (instrument cluster + infotainment + passenger display), the new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, and a clean, tech-forward centre console.

The biggest difference is the addition of a proper 7-seat configuration. The second row will feature a sliding function, and the teaser hints at a boss mode for the front passenger seat, allowing it to slide forward for extended second-row legroom. Expect generous cabin space, smart storage solutions, and ADAS with OTA upgrade support.

Mahindra hasn’t revealed powertrain specs yet, but the XEV 9S is expected to mirror the XEV 9e and BE 6 with 59kWh and 79kWh LFP battery options. A rear-mounted 231hp, 380Nm motor is expected to be the standard configuration.

However, given the model’s size and positioning, an AWD variant with an additional front motor is likely especially to counter upcoming rivals like the Tata Harrier EV. The INGLO platform also supports 80kWh batteries, an 800V architecture, and fast charging, with higher variants likely claiming over 500km of range.

The Mahindra XEV 9S will enter the market as India’s first mass-market, three-row electric SUV, giving it a unique advantage with no direct rival at launch. The only other three-row EVs currently below Rs 50 lakh, the Kia Carens Clavis EV and BYD eMax 7, are MPVs and therefore target a different segment.

Pricing is expected to sit slightly above the XEV 9e, with sales to begin sometime after the announcement.
