Video: Matter Motorcycles Is Using a Single-Chip Architecture to Rethink EVs
Founder and Group CEO Mohal Lalbhai explains how compute consolidation, rider intelligence, and materials innovation are reshaping electric motorcycles at Matter Motorcycles.
In this conversation with Autocar Professional, Mohal Lalbhai, Founder and Group CEO of Matter Motorcycles, offers a detailed look at how electric motorcycle design is evolving beyond hardware-heavy architectures towards software-led efficiency.
At the centre of Matter’s approach is a move away from multiple distributed electronic control units to a single, high-performance computing core. Lalbhai explains that consolidating several mid-level processors into one central chip not only simplifies vehicle electronics but also unlocks meaningful cost efficiencies at scale. More importantly, it enables the motorcycle to continuously interpret rider inputs and operating conditions, allowing performance and energy usage to adapt in real time.
The discussion also explores how rider behaviour plays a decisive role in real-world range outcomes, challenging conventional assumptions around battery sizing and efficiency. Lalbhai outlines how Matter’s AIDV platform uses intelligence rather than brute-force hardware to close the gap between claimed and experienced range.
Beyond software and compute, the conversation touches upon materials engineering, including efforts to reduce dependence on rare-earth elements, and how such choices could influence long-term scalability. Lalbhai also shares his perspective on why India-developed electric motorcycles can be engineered not just for domestic adoption, but for global relevance.
