Zen Mobility launches electric cargo three-wheeler Zen Micro Pod

Gurgaon-based Zen Mobility has launched the Zen Micro Pod, a specialised cargo 3-wheeler Light Electric Vehicle (LEV). The Zen Micro Pod will be offered in two versions, namely the R5x and R10x, both capable of carrying a maximum payload of 150 kilograms. The vehicle boasts a low running cost, consuming just 4 units of electricity and requiring approximately 1.5 to 2 hours for a full charge.

The Zen Micro Pod includes a distinct cargo box that can be customised to meet individual requirements, featuring shelves, refrigerated boxes, open tubs, and more. These storage units are equipped with a secure locking mechanism to prevent theft or pilferage.

Speaking on the announcement, Namit Jain, Founder and CEO, Zen Mobility said, “We have collaborated with leasing and rental companies, as well as fleet and third-party logistics (3PL) providers to ensure seamless deployment of the Zen Micro Pod, which can be leased or rented monthly, with fees of up to Rs 9,999 determined by factors such as lease type, tenure, and other considerations. Our goal is to bridge the supply and demand gap of EVs in last-mile delivery and provide effective fleet management solutions that we feel will excite the E-commerce and fleet companies. The Zen Micro Pod is a significant step towards achieving this objective.”

Zen Mobility is primarily targeting the B2B market, specifically focusing on last-mile deliveries. The company's customer base comprises third-party logistics providers, last-mile service providers, e-commerce companies, and grocery delivery companies.

According to a company statement, Zen Mobility has already received 10,000 orders from various enterprises and has established a production line in Manesar with an annual capacity of 100,000 vehicles. Mass production is scheduled to commence in June 2023, and the company possesses the necessary infrastructure to cater to increased market demands.

Zen Mobility obtained the ARAI Certificate of Conformity for its Zen Micro Pod. In addition, the company has revealed its plans to develop a 4-wheeler LEV called the Zen Maxi Pod, designed for transporting cargo and medium-to-large-sized goods. The official launch of the Zen Maxi Pod is scheduled for FY25, with prototypes currently under development. Customer trials are expected to commence in the third quarter of FY24.
