Visteon Launches Camera and Backlight Unit Manufacturing in India
Automotive technology company invests $10 million to establish in-house production of high-resolution camera systems and display components at Chennai facility.
Visteon Corporation has begun manufacturing high-resolution camera systems and display backlight units at its Chennai facility in India, marking the company's expansion into in-house production of automotive components. The initiative involves an initial investment of $10 million and represents part of the company's vertical integration strategy.
The new production lines will manufacture analog and digital cameras with resolution capabilities ranging from 1.3 megapixels to 8 megapixels. These camera systems are designed for integration with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and support modern high-definition in-car displays. The cameras are intended to assist drivers with parking, maneuvering, and navigation functions.
Sachin Lawande, President and CEO of Visteon, stated that India plays a role in the company's vertical integration approach. He noted that localizing production of camera systems and backlight units is intended to strengthen the company's ability to scale operations and deliver cockpit technologies to global markets.
The manufacturing expansion builds upon Visteon's existing display manufacturing operations in India. The company indicates this creates a more integrated production ecosystem for cockpit solutions by aligning display assembly with component manufacturing operations.
Visteon, headquartered in Van Buren Township, Michigan, operates in 17 countries and focuses on automotive cockpit electronics and connected car solutions. The company recorded annual sales of approximately $3.87 billion in 2024 and secured $6.1 billion in new business during that period.
The Chennai facility expansion aims to support both regional market demands and global production requirements. Visteon's product portfolio includes digital cockpit innovations, displays, software solutions, and integrated electric vehicle architecture solutions for passenger vehicles, commercial transportation, and two-wheelers.
The company partners with global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to develop automotive technologies. Visteon trades on NASDAQ under the ticker symbol VC and operates through a network of innovation centers and manufacturing facilities worldwide.
