Vedanta Aluminium Expands Automotive Portfolio with Two Advanced Alloys
Primary producer introduces copper-doped and IIT Delhi-developed alloys at AutoEdge 2026 to target lightweighting in conventional and electric vehicles.
Vedanta Aluminium has broadened its automotive materials portfolio with the launch of two new offerings under its Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA) range during its AutoEdge 2026 industry conclave.
The newly introduced products comprise a Copper-Doped Alloy and the Vedanta Foundry Alloy (VFA), the latter developed in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. The Copper-Doped Alloy utilizes copper to improve high-temperature performance, wear resistance, and durability across engine, transmission, and powertrain castings. The VFA is designed to offer higher structural strength, enhanced corrosion resistance, and improved casting performance for both internal combustion engine and electric vehicle applications.
The launches align with the company's broader transition toward high-margin, value-added products, aiming to increase their share in its overall portfolio to 90%. Vedanta Aluminium currently operates an existing PFA production capacity of 380 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA). Following the completion of its ongoing capacity expansion at the BALCO plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh, the company is set to reach a primary billet manufacturing capacity of 1.25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
"India’s automotive industry is rapidly evolving, creating demand for lighter, stronger and more sophisticated material solutions," said Rajesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Vedanta Aluminium. "At Vedanta Aluminium, we are strengthening our automotive-grade portfolio with advanced next-generation metals that are fully developed and manufactured in India while meeting world-class performance benchmarks."
The company's existing automotive metal portfolio includes PFAs for alloy wheels, cylinder heads, and engine components, alongside specialized extrusion billets for HVAC systems and crash-management engineering structures. Vedanta Aluminium supplies its product range across 60 international markets and operates smelting facilities at Jharsuguda in Odisha and Korba in Chhattisgarh, both certified under the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standards.
