Toyota Kirloskar Motor Sets Price for All-Electric Urban Cruiser Ebella at Rs. 23.60 Lakh
The single-variant BEV entry marks Toyota's first locally manufactured electric car in India as competition in the premium electric SUV segment intensifies.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has priced its all-electric Urban Cruiser Ebella at Rs. 23,60,000 (ex-showroom), launching a single E3 variant on May 29, 2026. The announcement marks the Japanese automaker's first fully battery-electric vehicle (BEV) to be manufactured at its Bidadi facility in Karnataka, a significant step for a brand that has until now focused largely on hybrid technology in the Indian market.
The Ebella is powered by a 61 kWh battery producing 128 kW (approximately 172 bhp) and 193 Nm of torque. The vehicle supports both AC and DC fast charging. TKM states that the express maintenance service, available across all outlets, can be completed within 45 minutes. Owners can manage charging remotely through Toyota's i-Connect platform, which also enables charging scheduling and real-time battery monitoring — features increasingly common in the BEV segment and likely to appeal to urban buyers without home charging infrastructure.
Externally, the Ebella follows TKM's 'Urban Tech' design language, featuring an aerodynamic profile, LED lighting, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The vehicle is available in five monotone and four dual-tone colour options. While TKM has not released official dimensions in this announcement, the Urban Cruiser Ebella is positioned as a mid-size SUV, slotting above the Urban Cruiser Hyryder in the company's lineup.
The cabin includes a unified digital cockpit with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Comfort features include ventilated front seats, sliding and reclining rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a 12-colour ambient lighting system. Audio is handled by a JBL-branded sound system. The dual-tone interior finish and premium materials appear aimed at buyers in the upper end of the mass-market segment.
The Ebella carries a Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) package, seven airbags, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and a high-tensile steel body structure. Level 2 ADAS typically includes features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, though TKM has not detailed the specific functions included in the Indian-market variant.
TKM is offering an eight-year battery warranty on the Ebella, which is in line with what several competitors offer in this segment. Additional ownership options include an Assured Buyback programme and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) financing — the latter allowing buyers to purchase the vehicle without the battery, reducing the upfront cost, and pay for battery usage separately. The company states that over 500 service outlets across India have been equipped with BEV diagnostic tools and infrastructure, and that more than 2,500 technicians have been trained specifically for electric vehicle servicing.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor is a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan, which holds an 89% stake, and Kirloskar Systems Limited, which holds the remaining 11%. The company operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi, Karnataka, with a combined installed production capacity of up to 3,42,000 units annually and a workforce of approximately 6,466 employees. Its first plant, established in 1997 and operational since December 1999, produces the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender. The second plant, which began production in December 2010, manufactures the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hilux. TKM also sells the Glanza, Rumion, and Urban Cruiser Taisor — models produced under a partnership with Maruti Suzuki — as well as the Vellfire and Land Cruiser 300, which are imported as completely built units.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is TKM's first fully battery-electric model manufactured in India, and represents a shift in approach for a brand that has built its India identity primarily around petrol-hybrid and strong-hybrid technology. Toyota globally has been slower than some rivals to commit to a pure-BEV strategy, prioritising hybrids as a near-term pathway to lower emissions. The Ebella's launch signals an acceleration of that transition in the Indian context.
The broader electric SUV segment in India has seen significant growth over the past two to three years. Tata Motors, through models such as the Nexon EV and Punch EV, dominates the volume end of the market. Mahindra's BE and XEV series, along with Hyundai's Creta Electric and Kia's EV6, are competing in the Rs. 18–30 lakh range. At Rs. 23.60 lakh, the Ebella enters a crowded and contested price band, where brand reputation, range anxiety concerns, and after-sales network depth are key purchase considerations.
