New Konarc to help power Ather Energy’s record sales of 350,000 e-scooters in CY2026
Having already sold 225,000 units led by the Rizta in the first eight months of this year with 82% YoY growth, the Konarc which is the first electric scooter spawned off the new EL platform and targeted at the mass market should see Ather Energy achieve its highest-ever annual sales of over 350,000 units this year.
Ather Energy is to officially take the covers off its newest product – the Ather Konarc – tomorrow (August 29) at its annual Ather Community Day. The first in a new family of products to be spawned from Ather Energy’s new EL platform, the Konarc is the start-up’s first new EV architecture since the Ather 450.
Expected to be priced in the Rs 100,000 to Rs 125,000 range, the Konarc will slot below the Rizta as Ather’s most affordable scooter. The Konarc, also the first Ather EV to have a metal body, will enable the company to cater to a significantly larger customer base and mark the brand’s entry into the mainstream electric commuter scooter segment. Importantly, the Konar will go head-to-head with the top two best-selling e-scooters in India – the TVS iQube and the Bajaj Chetak – as well as the TVS Orbiter.
With homologation completed in Q1 FY2027, production of the Ather Konarc commenced at the Hosur, Tamil Nadu plant in Q2 FY2027 even as manufacturing has been ramped up to cater to the new product. While plenty more product highlights details will emerge after the launch on August 29, the new Konarc will be instrumental in the Bengaluru-based smart electric scooter maker surpassing the 300,000-units annual retail sales milestone for the first time in CY2026.
Ather Energy Sales Performance in CY2026
As the retail sales table for the January 1-August 28 period (below) reveals, Ather Energy is witnessing a surge of demand for its e-scooters, particularly the premium Rizta family scooter. In end-June this year, Ather crossed cumulative sales of 700,000 units to become the fourth e-2W maker in India to do so, after Ola Electric, TVS Motor Co and Bajaj Auto. This includes its highest monthly sales of 36,614 units in March 2026 (up 106% YoY). Since then, Ola and TVS have gone on to sell over a million e-2Ws each.

With 225,115 e-scooters delivered between January 1 and August 27, Ather Energy has already surpassed its CY2025 sales (215,034 units) and should go on to sell a record 350,000 units this year.
In the current calendar year to date, Ather has already delivered 225,115 e-scooters to its customers. This marks handsome 82% YoY growth and is 10,081 units more than its entire CY2025 sales (215,034 units). The bulk of this total, which makes for average monthly retails of over 28,100 units, comes from the flagship and premium Rizta family scooter priced from Rs 121,000 through to Rs 157,000 (ex-showroom) across four variants (S 2.9 kWh, Z 2.9 kWh, S 3.7 kWh, and Z 3.7 kWh). Ather’s portfolio also includes the 450S, 450X and 450 Apex
440,000 Ather e-Scooters Sold in 20 Months
As the data table above reveals, Ather Energy’s upward growth trajectory has come about in the past four years, with sales accelerating in the past year and a half. Between January 1, 2025 and August 27, 2026, this e-2W startup delivered 440,149 e-scooters to its customers. This effectively means that 57% of Ather’s total sales of 765,828 EVs (as per Vahan) since CY2018 have come in the past 20 months, reflecting the rapid pace of demand for Ather EVs, particularly the Rizta launched in April 2024. Now, with the more affordable Konarc expanding the portfolio as well as the new plant in Maharashtra slated to go on stream later this year, expect Ather’s monthly numbers to rise.
Ather Energy's Year-on-Year Sales Growth Since 2022
While Ather’s sales in the first four years from CY2018 to CY2021 were minimal, and included the two-year impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, demand rose from CY2022 when it sold 54,773 units and accounted for an 8% share of the e-2W industry’s sales of 156,329 units. In CY2023, when its retails (111,812 units) crossed the 100,000-unit mark for the first time, Ather’s market share jumped to 12 percent.
In CY2024, the EV maker clocked 136,513 units and an 11% share of the 1.21 million e-2Ws sold in India. In CY2025, Ather scaled a new high for annual sales – 215,034 units with 58% growth – which gave it a 16% share of the record 1.34 million e-2Ws sold in India last year.
Now, in CY2026 YTD, Ather Energy continues to maintain the same rich vein of growth and has a 17% share of the 1.33 million electric 2Ws comprising scooters, bikes and mopeds sold in India to date this year.
In March 2026, Ather clocked its highest monthly sales – 36,614 units – which was also the first time it crossed the 30,000 mark and had a 19% share of India 2W Inc’s second-highest monthly sales of 199,420 units. Since then, it has crossed the 30,000 monthly mark twice – June (31,459 units) and July (30,612 units).

Konarc, which was snapped testing in early August, is the first model to be built on Ather’s new EL scalable, cost-effective chassis platform which will spawn a varied range of electric scooters.
Konarc to Power Ather's Next Phase of Growth
The new Konarc, which has been snapped testing in Benguluru in early August, is expected to be the harbinger of Ather Energy’s next phase of growth albeit it remains to be seen if the newest e-scooter takes away some sales from its costlier sibling Rizta.
Ather's Factory 3.0 and Capacity Expansion in Maharashtra
To support its expanded e-scooter line-up, Ather is setting up its Factory 3.0 at AURIC in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar in Maharashtra. Phase 1, with an annual production capacity of 500,000 units, is expected to commence production during Q3 FY2027, taking the company towards its planned one-million-units annual manufacturing capacity. Upon completion of Phase 1 and 2 at AURIC, Ather's total installed annual production capacity across its manufacturing facilities will reach 1.42 million electric two-wheelers per annum.
India's EV Two-Wheeler Market Trends in 2026
What is also helping Ather Energy, other leading e-2W manufacturers and India EV Inc overall is that governmental policy, fuel economic and consumer sentiment are all currently functioning in tandem. Electrification of mobility continues to accelerate at a rapid pace. July 2026, with over 330,000 units, was the best-ever month for India EV Inc to date.
While the e-2W (205,565 units) and e-CV segments (3,774 units) posted best-ever monthly sales in July, e-PVs and e-3Ws registered their second highest retails. With 13,33,228 zero-emission vehicles already sold between January and end-August which constitute 99% of CY2025 sales (13,42,266 EVs), CY2026 will see record sales of over 3 million units.
With a brand-new product and substantially expanded manufacturing capacity, will Ather Energy, at some stage in the future, go on to challenge market leaders TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto? That remains to be seen but, with the new mass-market Konarc, sustained demand for the Rizta, a fast-growing sales network, expanding reach into Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, and the all-new EL e-scooter platform, Ather Energy, ranked third after TVS and Bajaj Auto is fast taking the battle into the top two legacy players’ camps.
