Toyota Kirloskar Motor partners with GTTC to enhance skill development in Karnataka

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government Tool Room & Training Centre (GTTC) in Karnataka to advance skill development initiatives across the state. Effective from January 2025, the partnership aims to enhance training quality at GTTC centers and Multi-Skill Development Centres (MSDCs) by introducing industry-oriented practices, faculty training programs, and modernised training materials.

This initiative builds on TKM’s earlier efforts of developing 16 GTTC centers, with plans now to support an additional 16 centers. These new centers will follow the model of GTTC’s Magadi campus, envisioned as a flagship institute for industrial training. The collaboration also includes the upgrade of the MSDC in Mysuru to align with modern industry requirements and offer advanced training programs.  

As part of the agreement, GTTC faculty members will undergo training at TKM’s facilities in Bidadi, focusing on operational practices like the Toyota Production System. TKM will provide tailored training materials and collaborate with GTTC centers to establish an industrial culture. Sustainability will also be a focus, with faculty being trained in the Dr. Miyawaki afforestation method.  

Dr. Dinesh Kumar Y. K., Managing Director of GTTC, described the partnership as an important step toward equipping students and job seekers with industry-relevant skills. Sudeep S. Dalvi, Chief Communication Officer at TKM, noted that this collaboration reinforces the company’s commitment to creating a skilled workforce and supporting socio-economic development.  

The MoU will be in effect for 24 months, with periodic reviews to ensure progress. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to Karnataka’s industrial and educational landscape by fostering a stronger connection between academic learning and industry needs.
