TATA.ev has inaugurated its first ten MegaChargers at strategic locations across India, marking the initial phase of the company's commitment to install 500 high-speed charging stations nationwide. The installations, developed in partnership with ChargeZone and Statiq, are positioned along major highway corridors and in urban centers to support long-distance electric vehicle travel.
The new charging network includes three stations along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, four on the Delhi-Jaipur route, and additional locations on the Pune-Nashik highway and in Bengaluru and Udaipur. The flagship 400 kW MegaCharger in Vadodara can charge up to six vehicles simultaneously, adding approximately 150 km of range in 15 minutes.
"Ubiquitous and dependable charging infrastructure is the need of the hour," said Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. "These first ten TATA.ev MegaCharger sites in key EV corridors are the first tranche of a superfast charging network that we will have across major highways."
This initiative follows TATA.ev's recent commitment to increase the number of available charge points in India to 400,000 by 2027, more than doubling the current infrastructure. The company has adopted an 'Open Collaboration' framework to partner with various Charge Point Operators and Oil Marketing Companies.
India's electric vehicle market has been experiencing steady growth, with inadequate charging infrastructure often cited as a primary barrier to wider adoption. The new stations are equipped with amenities including restrooms, dining facilities and, in some locations, Wi-Fi and co-working spaces.
Akshit Bansal, Founder and CEO of Statiq, described the collaboration as "a milestone in building a trusted, nationwide EV charging network," while Kartikey Hariyani, CEO of ChargeZone, emphasized the focus on providing "fast, reliable, and easily accessible solutions."
TATA.ev, India's largest four-wheeler EV manufacturer, continues to lead electrification efforts in the country's automotive sector. The company aims to connect all major cities through its charging network to address range anxiety among potential and current electric vehicle owners.
