Tata Motors delivers 10,000 vehicles on day one of Navratri, GST cut

NEW DELHI -  Tata Motors did record deliveries and witnessed strong enquiries across its dealerships on the first day of Navratri on the back of lower GST and pent up festival season demand and higher discounts.

"Tata Motors records 10,000 deliveries & 25000+ enquiries on day 1 of Navratri marking a strong start to the festive season," according a company spokesperson.

Monday marked the start of the Navratri, following the conclusion of the 16-day Shradh period, a time when new purchases are typically avoided. Also the reduction of GST on small cars and SUVs from 28% to 18% came into effect from yesterday.

Several major passenger car manufacturers have announced they are fully passing on the GST rate cut to customers. Many of these companies, such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai, are also offering additional discounts on top of the GST benefits to increase sales.

Tata Motors has launched an aggressive "Festival of GST" campaign, offering substantial price reductions and additional benefits across its entire passenger vehicle lineup, with total savings reaching up to Rs 2 lakh on select models. These limited-time offers are valid until September 30, 2025, providing a significant advantage for customers looking to purchase a new car during the festive season.

A combination of lower GST rates and festive season discounts has created a buyer's market for cars. For example, the Tata Punch is currently available at prices comparable to its original October 2021 launch price, while the Tiago is being offered at its 2020 price.

Leading the offers is the Tata Nexon, which comes with total benefits of up to Rs 2 lakh. This includes a price reduction of Rs 1.55 lakh and additional perks worth Rs 45,000. The newly launched Tata Curvv is also part of the campaign, offering substantial benefits totaling Rs 1.07 lakh despite its recent market entry.

Premium SUVs, Harrier and Safari, are now more attractive in the competitive SUV segment, with benefits of upto Rs 1.94 lakh and Rs 1.98 lakh, respectively. The popular Punch compact SUV also offers benefits upto Rs 1.58 lakh, while the Altroz premium hatchback gets Rs 1.76 lakh in combined benefits.

Maruti Suzuki recorded 80,000 enquiries and estimates close to 30,000 deliveries, while Hyundai recorded wholesales of 11,000 units on Monday.
