Steelbird Hi-Tech Expands Production Capacity to 60,000 Helmets Daily

Steelbird Hi-Tech India Limited announced plans to increase its daily helmet production capacity to over 60,000 units through a ₹50 crore capital expenditure program in the current financial year. The investment will expand existing plant and machinery at the company's manufacturing facilities.

The helmet manufacturer completed a ₹54 crore capital expenditure in the previous financial year and is now undertaking additional investments to scale production. The company operates six manufacturing plants in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, and three in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with facilities spanning over one million square feet.

Steelbird maintains complete in-house manufacturing for all helmet components, including shells, EPS, visors, chinstraps, buckles, stickers, rivets, metal components, and EPLM bags.

The company's EPS plant covers 7,500 square meters and produces 45,000 EPS units daily, while its decal plant delivers 14,000 decals per day. The company has invested ₹40 crore in infrastructure for EPS, EPP, and decals production.

Managing Director Rajeev Kapur stated that the company produces every helmet component in-house to maintain safety standards without relying on third-party workers, citing concerns that production parameter deviations could compromise safety.

The company is developing a carbon fiber helmet manufacturing plant and plans to establish India's first in-house carbon fiber and fiberglass weaving facility. This facility aims to reduce dependency on external material suppliers and enable development of hybrid material combinations and weave structures for lighter helmets with improved impact resistance.

Steelbird plans to introduce 15 new helmet models in the current financial year and aims to launch 10 new models annually thereafter. The company stated that developing new helmet models requires investments ranging from ₹1.5 crore to ₹10 crore, with development cycles of two to three years depending on complexity and technological integration.

The company achieved a group turnover of ₹787 crore in FY 2023-24 and targets revenue exceeding ₹1,000 crore for the current fiscal year through production and sale of over 10 million helmets. Steelbird aims to reach ₹1,300 crore turnover by FY 2026-27.

Founded in 1964, Steelbird Hi-Tech India Limited manufactures motorcycle helmets and accessories and exports to more than 50 countries. The company serves as an OEM supplier to Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Royal Enfield.

Steelbird currently offers 51 helmet models and 17 pannier box models, with production capabilities exceeding 50,000 helmets per day across nine manufacturing plants.
