Skoda and Volkswagen Recall All India-Made Cars Due to Seatbelt Concern

The Skoda Kylaq, Kushaq, Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus have been recalled in India to fix an issue with the rear seatbelts. Based on SIAM data, the recall affects all these made-in-India models from Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, produced between May 24, 2024 and April 1, 2025.

The SIAM recall document states that 25,722 units of the Skoda Kylaq, Kushaq and Slavia have been affected. It was found that in the event of a frontal collision, “the rear seatbelts buckle latch plate may break, or/and the webbing of the rear centre seatbelt assembly along with buckle of rear right seatbelt may fail”. This would pose a safety risk for rear seat passengers.

As is usually the case with these recalls, the company is expected to directly reach out to the owners of the concerned vehicles to fix the problem. Owners could also log on to the Skoda India recall and Volkswagen India recall micro sites, and enter their VIN number to check if their cars have been affected.
