Oben Electric Develops New O100 Platform for Sub-₹1 Lakh Electric Motorcycles
Bengaluru-based manufacturer targets mass commuter segment with new platform designed for affordable electric motorcycles launching in late 2025
Oben Electric announced today the development of its second indigenous motorcycle platform, O100, aimed at entering India's 100cc equivalent electric motorcycle segment. The company plans to use this platform to produce electric motorcycles priced under ₹1 lakh for the mass market.
The platform, developed at the company's R&D center in Bengaluru, will target a segment that comprises nearly 30% of India's two-wheeler market, according to the company. The O100 platform features a modular architecture designed to support multiple variants with different battery options.
"Our new platform, O100, is engineered for India's mass daily commuters and aims to make electric motorcycles a practical reality for every Indian," said Madhumita Agrawal, Founder and CEO of Oben Electric.
The company states that it utilizes proprietary LFP battery technology and other components including motors, vehicle control units, and chargers developed in-house. These motorcycles are expected to launch in the second half of 2025.
Oben Electric's expansion plans include increasing its presence across Tier 1, 2, and 3 cities in India, with a target of over 100 showrooms by year-end. The company currently offers the Rorr and Rorr EZ models built on its first platform, ARX.
Founded in August 2020, Oben Electric specializes in designing and manufacturing electric motorcycles in India. The company claims to hold more than 25 patents for its technology and components. The electric two-wheeler market in India has seen significant growth in recent years, with various companies introducing new models to meet the increasing demand for sustainable transportation options.
India remains the world's largest motorcycle market, with traditional internal combustion engine models dominating sales. Electric two-wheelers currently represent a small but growing segment, with government incentives and increasing fuel prices driving adoption in urban areas.
