NXP Launches S32N7 Processor Series for Vehicle Centralization

Chipmaker's new 5nm processors aim to consolidate vehicle functions and reduce automotive costs by 20%.

NXP Launches S32N7 Processor Series for Vehicle Centralization

NXP Semiconductors has introduced its S32N7 super-integration processor series, designed to centralize core vehicle functions including propulsion, vehicle dynamics, body control, gateway operations, and safety systems onto a single chip platform.

The new processor family, built on 5nm technology, enables automakers to consolidate software and data into one centralized hub while maintaining safety and security standards. According to NXP, the technology could help manufacturers reduce total cost of ownership by up to 20% through the elimination of multiple hardware modules and improved efficiency in wiring, electronics, and software systems.

The S32N7 series supports AI-driven features such as personalized driving experiences, predictive maintenance capabilities, and virtual sensor technology. The processors include a high-performance data backbone designed to allow future AI silicon upgrades without requiring complete vehicle architecture redesigns.

NXP has partnered with Bosch for the initial deployment, with Bosch becoming the first company to integrate the S32N7 into its vehicle integration platform. The collaboration includes co-developed reference designs, safety frameworks, and hardware integration solutions.

Matthias Breunig, Senior Vice President of Compute Enhanced at Bosch Mobility, noted that Bosch had ECU samples ready alongside the first S32N7 silicon, providing customers with an early development advantage.

The S32N7 portfolio includes 32 compatible variants offering different levels of application compute, real-time processing, networking capabilities, hardware isolation, and AI acceleration. All variants are designed to meet automotive timing, safety, and security requirements.

The S32N79, the most advanced model in the series, is currently being sampled with customers. NXP showcased the technology at CES 2026 in Las Vegas this week.

NXP Semiconductors, which operates in over 30 countries, reported revenue of $12.61 billion in 2024. The company focuses on automotive, industrial IoT, mobile, and communications infrastructure markets.
