M&M Eyes 1 Million Unit Capacity, New Greenfield Plant by FY28 to Power SUV and EV Ambitions
The automaker aims to cross one-million-unit capacity with aggressive ramp-up and greenfield expansion by FY28, bringing in additional volumes.
Close on the heels of becoming India’s second-largest passenger vehicle maker, Mahindra & Mahindra is significantly expanding its production footprint to keep pace with rising demand for its SUVs and electric vehicles.
The company plans to scale up its monthly output from 61,500 units to 85,000 units by the end of FY26, taking its annual installed capacity beyond one million units. As part of this strategy, M&M will also set up a new greenfield plant that will be operational by FY28.
“We will add the 3XO and ROXX capacity, which is 9,000 and roughly 10,500 units, respectively. That’s an incremental 3,000 units in FY26,” said Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director & CEO – Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra, during the Q4 FY25 earnings call.
He further noted that a new vehicle platform, to be unveiled on August 15, will be backed by additional capacity in Chakan. “For the new platform that we will talk about, we will be creating additional capacity in Chakan of 1,20,000 units per annum,” he said.
Looking further ahead, Mahindra will begin work on an entirely new facility. “We will also start working on a completely greenfield project to be up by FY28,” Jejurikar announced.
While specific details of the upcoming plant remain under wraps, the company has confirmed that the August 15 event will focus on a forward-looking architecture. “It is a platform vision. It is not the launch of a product. It is the launch of a new platform and an introduction to the kinds of concepts and products that will come out of it,” he explained.
Mahindra’s bold capacity roadmap reinforces its intent to capture a larger share of the internal combustion and electric mobility markets, driven by a robust product pipeline and rising consumer demand.
