Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 unveiled

Mercedes has unveiled the Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, an even more opulent version of the standard SL Roadster. Mercedes says the SL Monogram Series is the sportiest car in Maybach’s history.

The SL 680 gets the Maybach grille with thin vertical slats, which is illuminated. The front bumper is redesigned and gets tons of chrome embellishment over the SL Roadster. Available in Garnet Red Metallic and Opalite White Magno at launch, the Maybach SL 680 comes with a two-tone finish, with an Obsidian Black hood. Other colour options are available as per the buyer’s request.

The car gets a unique pattern of Maybach logos on both the hood and the soft roof. Mercedes claims that the logos on the hood are partly hand-made. The bonnet also features an upright Mercedes star and a chromed fin running front to rear along its centre. On the inside, it gets tanned, crystal white nappa leather and trim parts in gleaming silver chrome. The seats are equipped with aerodynamically designed ‘scoops’ with the Maybach emblem, visible only with the top down.

To enhance comfort and luxury, Mercedes has optimised the exhaust system for reduced noise and offers an insulation and absorption package, as well as a comfort-oriented suspension set-up and soft engine mounts.

Powering the Maybach SL 680 is a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 that puts out 585hp and 800Nm of torque, with no hybrid assistance whatsoever. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission feeding power to all four wheels through Mercedes’ 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. The Maybach SL 680 can sprint from 0-100kph in just 4.1 seconds.

Mercedes is yet to reveal the prices of the Maybach SL 680. We expect it to be costlier than the Mercedes-AMG SL 55, currently priced at Rs 2.44 crore (ex-showroom) in India. It is yet to be seen if the SL 680 will be brought to India. Deliveries will start with Europe in 2025, followed by other markets.
