Maruti Suzuki Partners with Gurugram Authorities for Traffic Management System
It will work with Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Utkrisht Society for Safe Haryana to implement an Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Gurugram.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has announced a partnership with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Utkrisht Society for Safe Haryana, a Haryana State Police affiliate, to implement an Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Gurugram.
The initiative, funded under MSIL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, involves the installation of approximately 400 cameras and radar systems across 23 junctions, covering 40 kilometers of road stretches in the city.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed today between Maruti Suzuki, GMDA, and Utkrisht Society to formalize the collaboration. The ITMS will integrate with GMDA’s existing systems and aims to enhance traffic monitoring and enforcement in high-density areas.
Shyamal Misra, IAS, Chief Executive Officer of GMDA, stated that Gurugram’s rapid growth has intensified traffic challenges. He noted that the project is expected to aid in detecting violations, improving law enforcement, and increasing road safety. Similarly, Vikas Arora, IPS, Police Commissioner of Gurugram, highlighted that the targeted stretches experience significant traffic violations. He emphasized that the technology will enable digital recording of offenses, reducing subjectivity and supporting crime prevention efforts.
Rahul Bharti, Executive Officer of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, expressed gratitude to GMDA and Gurugram Police for the opportunity to contribute to traffic enforcement. He cited 2023 data indicating over 1.7 lakh road accident deaths in India, averaging one fatality every three minutes, with human error as a key factor. Bharti stated that electronic surveillance and enforcement could reduce dangerous driving and foster compliance over time.
The ITMS will feature advanced cameras and radar systems linked to a central command center. It will monitor violations such as red light jumping, speeding, wrong-side driving, and helmet non-compliance, while also enabling automatic number plate recognition. Detected violations will be recorded and transmitted to the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) for processing.
The initiative reflects Maruti Suzuki’s ongoing focus on road safety, with further details and event photographs available through the company’s corporate communication channels.
