MANNOL Introduces GLV-ONE 0W-8 Engine Oil for Enhanced Fuel Efficiency

MANNOL has announced the launch of its GLV-ONE 0W-8 engine oil, designed to meet the evolving demands of modern automotive powertrains, particularly hybrid electric vehicles. The new formulation addresses the industry's push toward greater energy efficiency while maintaining essential engine protection capabilities.

The 0W-8 viscosity grade represents a significant reduction from traditional engine oils, utilizing a blend of polyalphaolefin (PAO) and ester base oils combined with an optimized additive package. According to Dmitry Roskach, Chief Technology Officer at MANNOL, this formulation minimizes frictional losses while delivering reliable engine protection and thermal stability.

Laboratory testing indicates the GLV-ONE 0W-8 can improve fuel economy by up to 2.1% compared to 0W-16 reference oils, potentially leading to measurable reductions in CO₂ emissions. The oil's low ash and phosphorus content is designed to reduce catalyst loading, which may extend the lifespan of exhaust aftertreatment systems.

The product targets several key performance areas for modern engines, including enhanced cold-weather performance through improved pumpability and cold-start capability. The formulation also addresses specific challenges in turbocharged direct-injection engines by providing protection against Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) and supporting timing-chain durability.

Hybrid powertrains, including Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREV), Range Extended Electric Vehicles (REEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), Battery Assisted Hybrid Vehicles (BAHV), and traditional Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), are identified as primary beneficiaries of the low-viscosity formulation.

The oil demonstrates compatibility with alcohol-based fuels, including ethanol blends up to E85, and supports various exhaust aftertreatment technologies such as Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF), Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPF), Three-Way Catalysts (TWC), Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems.

GLV-ONE 0W-8 meets API SP, API SQ, and JASO GLV-1 specifications and is suitable for both gasoline and diesel engines, whether turbocharged or naturally aspirated, in passenger cars, light SUVs, minibuses, and light commercial vehicles.

The product is available in 5-liter, 20-liter, and 208-liter containers, catering to both consumer and commercial applications. The launch reflects the automotive industry's broader transition toward more efficient lubricants as vehicle electrification and fuel economy regulations continue to evolve.
