Mahindra to begin production of XUV 3XO EV later this year
It will have almost all the features seen on the standard XUV 3XO.
Mahindra is expected to launch the all-electric XUV 3XO EV by the end of this year. Internally codenamed the S240, it will be positioned below the XUV400 EV and will go into series production by November this year, Autocar India can confirm. Late last year, we reported about the development of this new electric SUV based on the erstwhile XUV300 (now XUV 3XO). The launch was originally scheduled for mid-2024, but that's seemingly delayed.
Mahindra has reportedly set a monthly production target of around 1,500-1,800 units for the XUV 3XO EV, which is a modest figure given its mass-market billing. This could, perhaps, be due to a slowdown in the uptake of EVs, especially since the XUV400 EV never really took off in terms of sales despite a series of updates. Overall, Mahindra plans to produce approximately 12,000 units of the XUV 3XO across all its fuel types, including petrol, diesel and electric.

We reported this in the Confidential section in the July 2024 issue of the Autocar India magazine.
Unlike the XUV400 EV, the XUV 3XO EV is expected to be identical to its ICE counterpart in terms of dimensions. It will be styled on lines of the facelifted SUV, but a few EV-specific design touches can certainly be expected. The interior and all its equipment are also expected to be largely carried forward from the XUV 3XO.
Powering the XUV 3XO EV will be the 34.5kWh battery pack that does duty on the lower-spec variants of the XUV400 EV. There are, however, no details on the range or electric motor specifications at this moment.
Mahindra will be looking to price the XUV 3XO EV a lot more aggressively than the XUV400 EV. Prices could start from Rs 15 lakh and go up to Rs 17 lakh, which means it will be about 2 lakhs more affordable than the XUV400 EV at the top-end. The XUV400 EV has been a slow seller, but Mahindra will be hoping to have a lot more competitive edge with the XUV 3XO EV to finally take the challenge to the Tata Nexon EV.
