Mahindra Auto Records Consistent Growth with 52,431 SUVs Sold in May

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. reported total auto sales of 84,110 vehicles in May 2025, representing a 17% year-over-year increase including exports. The Mumbai-based automotive company sold 52,431 utility vehicles in the domestic market during May, marking a 21% growth compared to the same period last year.

The May performance follows a similarly strong showing in April 2025, when Mahindra sold 52,330 SUVs domestically, achieving a 28% growth and total volumes of 84,170 vehicles with 19% growth. This consistent performance across both months demonstrates the company's sustained market momentum in the utility vehicle segment.

Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra's Automotive Division, attributed the results to continued demand across both internal combustion engine and battery electric vehicle portfolios. The company's SUV focus has proven successful, with domestic utility vehicle sales including exports reaching 54,819 units in May.

Commercial vehicle sales in May totaled 21,392 units domestically, showing varied performance across different segments. Light commercial vehicles in the 2-3.5 ton category recorded 17,718 units with 14% growth, while vehicles under 2 tons saw a decline of 18% to 2,580 units. The three-wheeler segment, including electric variants, achieved 6,635 units with 11% growth.

Mahindra's export operations demonstrated robust growth, with 3,652 units shipped internationally in May, representing a 37% increase from the previous year. Year-to-date exports through May reached 7,033 units, marking a 55% growth compared to the same period in 2024.

The company's year-to-date domestic SUV sales through May totaled 104,761 units, representing a 24% increase over the comparable period last year. This performance builds on Mahindra's record-breaking fiscal year 2025, when it achieved its highest-ever annual SUV sales of 551,487 units, establishing the company as India's leading SUV manufacturer.

Founded in 1945, Mahindra Group operates across multiple sectors including farm equipment, utility vehicles, information technology, and financial services. The conglomerate employs 260,000 people across more than 100 countries and holds the position as the world's largest tractor manufacturer by volume.

The automotive division's consistent performance in the first two months of fiscal 2026 indicates strong market positioning as Indian consumers continue showing preference for utility vehicles. Mahindra's ability to maintain double-digit growth rates across consecutive months reflects both product portfolio strength and effective market execution in the competitive Indian automotive landscape.
