Mahindra Auto Reports 17% Growth in Total Vehicle Sales for May 2025
The Indian automotive manufacturer sold 84,110 vehicles including exports, driven by strong SUV demand in domestic market.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. recorded total vehicle sales of 84,110 units in May 2025, representing a 17% increase compared to the same period last year. The Mumbai-based automotive company announced the figures on June 1, 2025, highlighting growth across multiple vehicle segments.
The company's utility vehicle segment performed particularly well, with domestic sales reaching 52,431 units in May 2025, marking a 21% year-on-year growth. Including exports, total utility vehicle sales stood at 54,819 units for the month. This performance contributed significantly to the company's overall sales increase.
Commercial vehicle sales in the domestic market totaled 21,392 units during May 2025. The light commercial vehicle segment between 2 tons and 3.5 tons showed the strongest performance in this category, with 17,718 units sold, representing a 14% increase from the previous year. However, the sub-2-ton light commercial vehicle segment declined by 18%, with 2,580 units sold compared to 3,156 units in May 2024.
Export performance showed substantial improvement, with 3,652 units exported in May 2025, a 37% increase from 2,671 units in the corresponding month of the previous year. For the year-to-date period ending May 2025, exports reached 7,033 units, up 55% from 4,528 units in the same period of 2024.
Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra's Automotive Division, attributed the growth to sustained demand for the company's products across both internal combustion engine and battery electric vehicle portfolios. The company delivered what it described as industry-leading growth rates during the month.
Mahindra & Mahindra, established in 1945, operates as one of India's major automotive manufacturers with a focus on utility vehicles, commercial vehicles, and farm equipment. The company maintains manufacturing and sales operations across multiple countries and holds a significant position in India's automotive sector, particularly in the utility vehicle segment.
The sales figures include contributions from subsidiary companies Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited for utility vehicle sales and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited for certain commercial vehicle and three-wheeler sales. The company's three-wheeler segment, including electric variants, recorded sales of 6,635 units in May 2025, an 11% increase from the previous year.
