Hyundai to Equip Next-Gen Creta with Hybrid Powertrain Option
Third-generation Creta to be sold with hybrid, petrol and diesel engine options, alongside the facelift for the Creta Electric.
We’ve reported that work has begun on the third-gen Hyundai Creta (codenamed SX3), and we can now confirm that the midsize SUV will also get a hybrid powertrain option in 2027. This means that the new Creta will have as many as four engine options – two petrols, one diesel and a petrol-hybrid.
New Hyundai Creta hybrid details
1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine to be hybridised
Along with the current engine options – a 115hp, 1.5-litre petrol; a 160hp, 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol; and a 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel – the new Creta will also have a 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid. Like with the Creta’s sibling from Kia, the Seltos, Hyundai’s midsize SUV will also utilise a hybridised version of the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
When it arrives in 2027 – after Hyundai India’s first hybrid SUV, which is a new model positioned between the Alcazar and Tucson – the Creta hybrid will take on the Kia Seltos hybrid, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The Renault Duster hybrid and its Nissan counterpart will also be on sale by then, providing more competition for Hyundai’s hybrid midsize SUV.
Hyundai Creta Electric to get facelift in 2027
As we’ve mentioned earlier, the Hyundai Creta Electric, will get a mid-cycle refresh, and not a full model change. Not much is known yet about the Creta Electric facelift, but among the changes expected are design tweaks, more tech and added creature comforts. It may even get longer range due to larger batteries or better battery-management software.
