Hero tops bike, scooter sales chart in July 2023, Honda a close second

Here's how the Indian two-wheeler market fared in July 2023.

Sales figures for the six heavyweights in the Indian two-wheeler market are out for July 2023, and here’s how each company fared. 

Hero MotoCorp: 3,71,204 units

Despite recording a 12.19 percent decline compared to its June 2023 sales figure (4,22,757 units), Hero continues to lead the market. The company also reported a 13.81 percent decline when compared to its July 2022 numbers (4,30,684 units). 

Hero recently launched the Xtreme 200S 4V and is also handling the manufacturing and distribution of the hotly anticipated Harley-Davidson X440.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI): 3,10,867 units

Compared to its June 2022 numbers of 3,02,756 units, Honda reported a slight increase of 2.68 percent. However, compared to its own sales figure of July 2022 (3,55,560 units), HMSI reported a 12.57 percent decline. 

Honda recently launched the Dio 125 and will soon launch the SP160, based on the Unicorn platform.

TVS Motor Company: 2,35,230 units

TVS reported the slightest of declines, just 0.02 percent, in its monthly sales compared to the 2,35,833 units it sold in June. Compared to its sales figure for July 2022 (2,01,942 units), the Hosur-based manufacturer reported a 16.48 percent increase.

Bajaj: 1,41,990 units

Bajaj reported a 14.61 percent decline when compared to its June 2023 sales numbers (1,66,292 units). Even compared to its July 2022 sales numbers (1,64,384 units), it reported a 13.62 percent slump.   

It is to be mentioned here that Bajaj Auto has shared its sales figures including the numbers for Chetak Technology Limited as well. The company doesn’t provide a break-up between the two.

Bajaj handles the production and sales of the new Triumph Speed 400, and its deliveries are set to commence shortly.

Suzuki: 80,309 units

Suzuki reported a 27.35 percent increase in July compared to its June 2023 sales numbers (63,059 units). Even stacking its July 2023 numbers against its July 2022 performance (60,892 units), Suzuki reported a 31.89 percent increase. 

If you factor in the 27,527 units Suzuki India exported in July, this marks the first time the company has crossed the 1 lakh unit sales milestone. Speaking of crossing milestones, the popular Access 125 recently breached the 50 lakh unit production mark.  

Royal Enfield: 66,062 units

RE reported a small 2.12 percent decrease in July, compared to the 67,495 units it sold in June 2023. However, compared to the 46,529 units it sold in July 2022, the company reported a 41.98 percent increase.

The Hunter 350 has crossed the 2 lakh unit sales milestone in less than a year since its launch and the company is also readying a new Scram 440. The launch of the iconic Bullet 350, in its revamped J-platform avatar is less than a month away.
