Ferrari has unveiled the Luce, its first fully electric production model, introducing a new vehicle architecture and expanding the company's range beyond traditional combustion and hybrid powertrains. The model was revealed in Rome and represents a new direction for the Italian marque's broader multi-energy strategy.
Built on a dedicated electric platform, the Luce uses four independently controlled electric motors — one at each wheel — along with an 800V electrical architecture and a 122kWh battery pack. Ferrari says the setup produces a combined output of 1,050hp and enables a claimed 0-100kph time of 2.5 seconds, 0-200kph in 6.8 seconds and a top speed exceeding 310kph. Estimated range stands at over 530km.
The Luce also introduces several firsts for Ferrari, including an electric all-wheel-drive system, four-wheel steering and a five-seat layout. The model features four doors and adopts a packaging arrangement made possible by the electric platform, allowing for greater cabin space compared with previous Ferrari models.
Ferrari collaborated with design collective LoveFrom, led by Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson, for the project. The exterior design centres around a shell-like glasshouse structure, while the cabin combines physical controls with digital interfaces, including OLED displays and a 21-speaker audio system.
On the technical side, Ferrari says the Luce employs a new Vehicle Control Unit integrating powertrain and vehicle dynamics systems, updating inputs 200 times per second. The model also features torque vectoring, active suspension and regenerative braking technologies developed specifically for the new architecture.
Battery charging capability is rated at up to 350kW DC fast charging, with Ferrari claiming that 70kWh can be replenished in approximately 20 minutes under suitable charging conditions. Ferrari has also announced an eight-year warranty for the electric powertrain components and a seven-year maintenance programme.
