BorgWarner Wins Supply Contract for Motorcycle Transmissions in China

BorgWarner has secured a new Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) program with an unnamed Chinese motorcycle manufacturer, scheduled to enter production in the third quarter of 2027, the company announced on Friday.

What the Supply Package Includes

Under the contract, BorgWarner will supply a package consisting of dual clutches, hydraulic control modules, and clutch control software. The system is designed for two-wheeled motorcycles and four-wheeled vehicles featuring engine displacements above 500 cc.

Why DCT Wins Over AMT and CVT for Higher-Displacement Bikes

The deployment of DCT technology in higher-displacement motorcycles offers smoother shifting and higher transmission efficiency compared to Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) and Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) alternatives, the company stated.

The agreement marks a shift for BorgWarner from supplying individual powertrain components to delivering integrated hardware and software systems in the motorcycle segment. The manufacturer said that the system is intended to support its domestic production in China as well as its planned export expansion into North America, Europe, and other international markets.
