ECMA’s ECT 2026 Conference Puts BS-VII Emission Norms in Focus

The Emission Controls Manufacturers Association (ECMA) is organising the 17th edition of its International Conference on Emission Control Technologies (ECT 2026) on October 22-23 at Hotel Taj Vivanta, Dwarka, New Delhi, with a focus on India’s transition towards the next generation of vehicular emission regulations.

The two-day conference, themed ‘Engineering Clean Mobility Advancements for BS-VII’, will bring together government officials, automotive manufacturers, technology suppliers, researchers and international experts to discuss developments in emission control technologies and sustainable mobility solutions. The event will also feature an exposition showcasing products, technologies and innovations related to emission reduction.

According to ECMA, discussions surrounding BS-VII are expected to extend beyond conventional tailpipe emission limits to include real-world emissions, onboard monitoring and lifecycle sustainability. The conference will examine the technological developments required to support these potential regulatory changes, including advances in combustion engines, emission after-treatment systems and alternative fuel technologies.

Technical discussions will cover advanced combustion engines, hybrid powertrains, hydrogen, biofuels and digital monitoring systems. The conference will also address the implications of stricter emission requirements for vehicle manufacturers and component suppliers, alongside the need to balance environmental objectives with affordability, energy security and industrial competitiveness.

Established in 2002, ECMA represents 21 global emission control systems manufacturers and allied industries operating in India, according to its latest conference brochure. The association works with industry stakeholders, technical institutions and policymakers on emission reduction technologies for on-road and off-road applications.

ECMA members are also participating in BS-VII-related panels constituted under the Standing Committee on Emission Legislation (SCOE) and the Automotive Industry Standards Committee (AISC), both operating under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The association maintains links with the Association for Emissions Control by Catalyst (AECC) in Europe and the Manufacturers of Emission Controls Association (MECA) in the United States.

The previous edition, held in October 2025, attracted more than 360 delegates and featured nine keynote addresses and 29 technical papers across ten sessions. Discussions covered Euro 7 and BS-VII regulations, emission control technologies for light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles, off-road applications and hybrid powertrains.

The 2026 conference will continue ECMA’s annual engagement with industry and regulatory stakeholders on emerging emission standards and technologies.
