Charge Zone, one of India’s leading electric vehicle charging networks, has launched ‘Shwa’, a public art initiative aimed at transforming EV Supercharging stations into cultural spaces that engage the public with themes of sustainability and community. Announced on World Environment Day, the project brings large-scale murals created by Indian artists to highway charging stations, beginning with locations in Karjan, Gujarat, and Suryapet, Telangana.
The initiative features work by artist Rahul Kumawat, whose murals explore environmental and regional narratives. According to Charge Zone, the aim is to create visually engaging environments where travelers can reflect on climate and cultural themes while their vehicles charge.
Over the next six months, the company plans to expand the initiative to 10–12 additional sites, with a long-term vision of reaching several hundred locations across India in the coming years. Each mural includes a QR code linking to the dedicated Shwa microsite (shwa.chargezone.co.in), which provides high-resolution images, artist profiles, and background stories related to each installation.
Kartikey Hariyani, Founder and CEO of Charge Zone, stated that the initiative reflects the company’s effort to go beyond infrastructure and foster a connection between people and the environment. Project Head Devbrat Hariyani added that the murals are intended to spark thought and engagement by creating spaces that blend culture, community, and climate awareness.
Charge Zone, headquartered in Vadodara, Gujarat, currently operates over 13,500 charging points across more than 400 locations in India and the UAE. The company’s focus remains on expanding high-speed, smart-grid-enabled EV infrastructure with a long-term goal of establishing one million charging points.
