BYD Sealion 7 Launches in India at ₹48.9 Lakh, Performance Variant at ₹54.9 Lakh
Chinese automaker BYD expands its Indian electric vehicle lineup with the SEALION 7 SUV, offering up to 567 km range and featuring an 82.56 kWh battery pack across variants.
BYD India has officially unveiled the pricing structure for its highly anticipated electric SUV, the Sealion 7, positioning it in the premium segment with the base Premium variant starting at Rs 48.9 lakh and the Performance variant at Rs 54.9 lakh (ex-showroom, including GST). This strategic pricing places the Sealion 7 in direct competition with established luxury electric SUVs in the Indian market.
The announcement follows the vehicle's grand unveiling at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 on January 18, where BYD also initiated its booking process. The market response has been notably strong, with the company securing over 1,000 bookings during the promotional period. While the initial promotional booking phase concludes today, prospective customers can still secure their Sealion 7 with a booking amount of Rs 70,000, reflecting the company's confidence in sustained demand.
At the heart of both variants lies an advanced 82.56 kWh battery pack, showcasing BYD's innovative Blade Battery technology. The Premium variant impresses with a range of 567 km, while the Performance version delivers 542 km (NEDC test cycle). The Performance variant justifies its nomenclature with remarkable acceleration, achieving 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, powered by a robust 390 kW motor producing 690 Nm of torque. The Premium variant, while more focused on efficiency, still manages a respectable 6.7-second sprint to 100 km/h, utilizing a 230 kW motor with 380 Nm of torque.
The Sealion 7's feature list reflects its premium positioning, incorporating a sophisticated 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, luxurious Nappa leather seats, an expansive panoramic glass roof with electric sunshade, and an immersive 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system. The vehicle's commitment to safety is evident in its comprehensive suite of features, including 11 airbags, driver fatigue monitoring, and advanced driver assistance systems. A standout feature is its Vehicle to Load (VTOL) capability, transforming the SUV into a mobile power station capable of powering external devices, adding practical utility to its luxury credentials.
Understanding the importance of after-sales support in the premium segment, BYD has introduced an extensive warranty package. This includes an 8-year/160,000 km warranty on the traction battery, demonstrating confidence in their Blade Battery technology, and an 8-year/150,000 km warranty on the motor and controller. Each purchase includes a complimentary 7kW charger with installation, complemented by 6-year roadside assistance and the first inspection service at no additional cost. The low-voltage battery, utilizing advanced LFP technology, comes with a 6-year/150,000 km warranty.
Deliveries of the Sealion 7 are set to commence in mid-March 2025, with BYD's expanding network of 40 dealerships across India ready to support the launch. This introduction marks BYD's fifth model in the Indian market, joining a growing portfolio that includes the successful ATTO 3, eMAX7, and SEAL models. The expansion of their dealership network reflects BYD's commitment to establishing a strong presence in the Indian automotive landscape.
The Sealion 7's launch comes at a crucial time in India's electric vehicle market evolution, where premium electric SUVs are gaining traction among environmentally conscious luxury car buyers. With its combination of advanced technology, comprehensive feature set, and competitive pricing, the Sealion 7 appears well-positioned to capture a significant share of this growing market segment, potentially influencing the broader adoption of electric vehicles in the premium category.
