BMW X1 LWB Launched In India With 156hp Petrol, 7-Speed DCT
BMW has launched the X1 Long Wheelbase in India, adding 108mm to the wheelbase and increasing rear-seat space. The locally produced SUV is available with a 156hp petrol engine and 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
BMW India has launched the X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India, with production taking place at the company’s Chennai plant. The SUV is offered in a petrol-powered configuration and is available for booking through BMW dealerships from August 21, 2026.
The X1 LWB measures 4,616mm in length, 2,104mm in width and 1,641mm in height, with a 2,800mm wheelbase. BMW says the longer wheelbase increases rear legroom by 150mm and knee room by 109mm. Boot capacity stands at 540 litres and can be expanded to 1,700 litres by folding the rear seats.

The X1 LWB retains the X1’s overall design while receiving an extended wheelbase. The SUV gets Adaptive LED headlights, BMW High Beam Assistant, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof measuring 9 sq ft.
Inside, the front seats are electrically adjustable, while the rear seats can be reclined by up to 28.5 degrees. Equipment includes a Widescreen Curved Display, BMW Operating System 9, an M Sport steering wheel, ambient lighting and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
The SUV also gets a vertically stacked wireless smartphone charger with holder and a floating armrest with storage.
BMW X1 LWB gets 156hp petrol engine
The BMW X1 LWB is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine producing 156hp and 230Nm of torque between 1,500rpm and 4,600rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
BMW claims a fuel-efficiency figure of 15.5kmpl. The SUV also uses a 50:50 weight distribution and gets a Comfort suspension setup with increased caster travel.
BMW X1 LWB gets updated digital and safety features

The X1 LWB features BMW Digital Key Plus with Comfort Access 2.0, allowing compatible smartphones and smartwatches to be used as vehicle keys. The digital key can be shared with up to 18 users.
Other technology includes BMW Maps functions, traffic visualisation, proactive trip suggestions and over-the-air software updates. The BMW Digital Premium Package adds features and third-party applications through the BMW OneShop platform.
Safety and driver-assistance equipment includes Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Assistant, Cruise Control with Braking Function, Automatic Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Protection and Attentiveness Assistant. The SUV also gets front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and a 360-degree surround-view system.
BMW has also equipped the X1 LWB with Parking Assistant, while the Reversing Assistant can remember the last 50 metres driven and automatically reverse the vehicle along the same route.
BMW Group India president and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar said, “Customers today want a vehicle that satisfies both practical needs and emotional aspirations.”
The BMW X1 LWB is available in Nightdust Blue, Skyscraper Grey, Carbon Black and Mineral White exterior finishes. Interior upholstery options include Castanea Perforated upholstery and Dual Tone Smoke White Grey.
