Battery Smart Partners with Delhi Traffic Police for E-Rickshaw Driver Safety Program
India's largest battery-swapping network collaborates with traffic authorities to educate over 100 drivers on road safety.
Battery Smart, partnered with Delhi Traffic Police to conduct a road safety and traffic rules awareness program for e-rickshaw drivers in the capital city.
The initiative reached over 100 drivers, providing education on responsible driving, traffic regulation adherence, safe battery handling, and monsoon-specific precautions. The training program aimed to enhance safety awareness among e-rickshaw operators who form a significant component of Delhi's urban mobility infrastructure.
The event was attended by Chief Guest Shri Ajay Kumar, Executive Magistrate, South West Delhi, representing District Magistrate Shri Lakshay Singhal, along with senior officials from Delhi Traffic Police and Battery Smart leadership.
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Shri Ajay Kumar stated: "Creating safer roads starts with building awareness and responsible driving behaviour among all road users. Initiatives like this are important in translating that awareness into action by bridging on-ground knowledge gaps. By focusing on e-rickshaw drivers, who form a significant part of Delhi's mobility ecosystem, Battery Smart and the Delhi Traffic Police have taken a proactive step toward strengthening safe driving habits and reinforcing traffic discipline. Such collaborative and community-focused efforts are essential to building safer roads."
Captain Hamendra Sharma, Vice President of Special Operations at Battery Smart, commented on the initiative: "E-rickshaw drivers are the frontline enablers of India's electric mobility revolution, playing a vital role in delivering clean and affordable last-mile transport in our cities. At Battery Smart, we are committed to supporting them not just through our battery-swapping network, but also by creating awareness on safer on-road practices. This initiative, in collaboration with the Delhi Traffic Police, is a step towards building a safer and more responsible EV ecosystem. Through structured training and awareness programs, we aim to promote safer on-road behaviour, strengthen public trust in e-mobility, and create a more secure and sustainable urban commute for all."
The training session featured interactive instruction from Delhi Traffic Police officers and Battery Smart ground teams. The curriculum covered real-life case studies, responsible driving practices, battery handling fundamentals, electrical safety protocols, and safe parking procedures tailored to the operational challenges faced by e-rickshaw drivers daily.
The program concluded with a felicitation ceremony where drivers demonstrating exceptional commitment to road safety received certificates recognizing their participation.
Battery Smart incorporates safety training as a mandatory component of driver onboarding, complemented by ongoing educational campaigns throughout the year. Driver and station partner safety remains a primary focus for the organization.
The company recently marked its fifth anniversary milestone, operating over 1,500 swap stations and serving more than 70,000 drivers across 50 cities in India. Battery Smart has completed over 75 million battery swaps since its establishment by IIT-Kanpur graduates Pulkit Khurana and Siddharth Sikka in 2019.
