Bajaj Auto Reports 8% Growth in May 2025 Sales Despite Domestic Market Challenges

Bajaj Auto Limited recorded total sales of 3,84,621 units in May 2025, representing an 8% increase compared to 3,55,323 units sold in the same period last year. The growth was driven primarily by exports, which rose 22% to 1,58,888 units, while domestic sales remained flat at 2,25,733 units compared to 2,25,087 units in May 2024.

The two-wheeler segment contributed significantly to the company's performance, with total sales reaching 3,32,370 units, marking a 9% year-on-year growth. Export sales in this category surged 20% to 1,40,958 units from 1,17,142 units in May 2024, while domestic two-wheeler sales grew modestly by 2% to 1,91,412 units from 1,88,340 units.

Commercial vehicle sales showed mixed results, with total volumes increasing 5% to 52,251 units. The segment witnessed strong export growth of 37%, reaching 17,930 units compared to 13,094 units in May 2024. However, domestic commercial vehicle sales declined 7% to 34,321 units from 36,747 units in the previous year.

The cumulative performance for April-May 2025 revealed a contrasting picture for the company. Total sales for the two-month period reached 7,50,431 units, representing only a 1% increase from 7,43,579 units in the corresponding period of 2024. Domestic sales across both segments declined 6% to 4,46,348 units, while exports provided strong support with 13% growth to 3,04,083 units.

In April 2025, Bajaj Auto had reported a 6% decline in total sales as the domestic market weakened, with domestic sales falling 11% year-on-year. The May results indicate a partial recovery, though domestic market challenges persist.

The company's export strength reflects its established international presence, particularly in markets where demand for affordable mobility solutions remains robust. Bajaj Auto is recognized as one of the largest motorcycle companies globally and holds the leadership position in the three-wheeler segment.

In the previous financial year 2023-24, Bajaj Auto achieved its highest-ever domestic sales volume of over 2.1 million units, with market share increasing by 90 basis points to 18.2%. The current year's performance suggests the company faces headwinds in maintaining that momentum in the domestic market.

The divergent performance between domestic and export markets highlights the challenges facing India's automotive sector, where consumer spending has been affected by economic uncertainties. Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto's international competitiveness continues to provide growth opportunities, particularly in emerging markets where the company's product portfolio aligns with local transportation needs.

Industry analysts will closely monitor Bajaj Auto's performance in the coming months to assess whether the domestic market stabilizes and whether export growth can sustain the company's overall expansion trajectory.
